Started seeing these on GunBroker. I couldn't find it on the Savage website or any write ups on it. Maybe it's a special run or dealer exclusive but it looks like a deal at $599 for a 5.5 lb rifle. Anyone know more about this offering?

I guess I'll find out soon. I bought one. Talked to the dealer and it's a special run. Stainless synthetic stock version of the standard lightweight.

Looks like a nice setup. I thought one in .223 would make a good lightweight gun for coyotes and groundhogs while walking around the farm. Then I could turn it into a 6x45 for shooting deer since we can legally shoot the with a 223 in VA.

What calibers are the being offered in?

I bought a 308. I've seen 223, 243, 270 Win, 7-08 and 308 on Gunbroker.

I wonder if the $75 rebate applies to these as well?

Looks like it's on the Savage website now. Rattle can paint job and switched out the bolt handle.

Mounted a Weaver 3-10 Grand Slam tactical I had laying around. Now just need to find out if it shoots.

If there's one thing you can say about a savage, its that they shoot.

I thought VA was .23 or bigger. New this year?

Paint's not to my taste, but nicely done. Bolt handle is a bit much.

The contours of that lightweight action are even better in SS, and I generally don't even like Savages.

No, sorry, it is still .23. That post should have read "can't" in the last sentence. That is why I would have to change the barrel to a 6x45. Same case, but open the case mouth and bore diameter to 6mm.

The original bolt handle was smaller than I'm used to which is the Ruger 77 with a nicely sized round ball. I wanted something easier to grab and clear the scope. It's bigger than I'm used too but the actual handle is aluminum so it's bigger but lighter than the original. It's growing on me. It's defiantly more functional.

That stock sure looks better than the F'up wood stock with all the slits cut in it.

That's very interesting. Going to have to check them out. 308 is a great choice. Most importantly, how does it shoot?

It's supposed to be in the 80s this weekend. I plan on seeing how it does at the range.

I just bought one in .308 also and just finished putting a new bolt handle on mine a few minutes ago. I have Talley lightweight extra lows and a VX2 3X9X40 German #4 to mount on it. Looking forward to messing with under 7lbs all up hunting rifle.

Made it to the range today. I burned a lot of rounds just trying to get it sighted in. It wasn't bore sighted and only the 100 yard lanes were open. I did the old bore sight through the barrel but at 100 yards it didn't work so well. Burned more than a few rounds just trying to get on paper. My intention was to test out some 155 Custom Competition and 150 Partitions with TAC but I burned though almost all of them sighting in. I need to get a laser bore sight and save me the aggravation.

I'm glad I brought a bag or 150 Speer Mag Tips that worked so well in my Ruger 77 RSI. The Savage likes them too. This was a 3 shot group. After shooting this group, I chony'd a couple on the Magnetospeed and was surprised at the velocity.

There are a lot of people absolutely thrilled to spend twice as much on a gun for half the grouping - and feel they really uncovered a bargain!

Nice performance on a 5.5 lb factory gun. I continue to have a preference for the Savages based on performance and prefit barrels. Now they are playing with 5.5 lbs? Oh boy.... Looks like a winner.

The laser really does work to make life easier.

I see we have another Savage that shoots! Nice rifle! I might need one of those!
