I was browsing in Bass Pro, Birmingham the other day. Clerk showed me a DPMS Oracle. Regular price is around $600, so it's not a hand assembled target shooter or prairie dog rifle. They had it on sale for $529.00. Took off another 10% because I have a Bass Pro account. Add in the tax, and I walked out with the little carbine for $524.69. Ordered a Vortex Sparc II, and a set of MagPul BUIS. This will be a present to my Son in Law. For the past three years, he has had my AR180B on loan, for a home defense rifle. Now I'll get that back. edited, I goofed on the price.

he's a good lad, and meets every father's two main criteria for that position. He has a job, and he does not beat the daughter. Seriously, if I sat down and wrote a spec sheet for a SIL, I could not have done better. His family is top shelf as well.

(IN MY OPINION) it is a lot more gun for the money than any Mini 14 every made. I would have no issue with it for a truck gun, provided the barrel was nitrided or chromed. If something gets wet I don't want to worry about it. In a "you get what you pay for" world a lot of times you get what the manufacturer thinks you should pay for and not what you want to pay for. Then sometimes as I have seen you pay big money for a big name and get a handful of crap....
DPMS has their issues from time to time but they are a stand up company.

I've seen more "issues" with dpms than any other company, well oly might be a tie but I was mainly being sarcastic when I read you were replacing the AR180 with the dpms.
oh well some get me, some don't.

I did the same for my SIL, except I built him one with optic and surprised him with it, he was ecstatic. He had been wanting an AR for some time and he was waiting to save up some extra cash to buy one and it would have been a while since he and my daughter just purchased a new home. I also purchased them a new riding mower for their home.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

My LGS sells just about every major brand of AR-15's on the market. The DPMS Oracle out sells the ALL other models by at least probably 3 to 1. And as far as I know, nobody has ever returned one with issues of any kind. That includes my nephew who purchased one back 3 or 4 years ago and has put several thousand rounds per year through his with out a hitch.
Personally, I'd prefer a S&W M&P 15, for a "cheap" AR. But I would have no problem at all recommending a DPMS Oracle to any of my friends or relatives.

oh well some get me, some don't. I totally agree. But they did start improving and a few of the latest Iv'e seen that folks have bought have been good, and the barrels have been accurate enough. I'd still avoid them and Oly just due to past experiences and the fact there are so many other makers out there that work very well.

this stuff is like the 1 MOA all day long internet blather rifle story ....my sisters husbands brothers cousin has one etc.
On the other hand given a choice between the Oracle and the Mini 14 it would be DPMS everytime for me.

LOL, I think I may have 2 ARs that are not MOA rifles. But I might be above average.

With the crap I saw, I would rather have a mini-14 my second AR was an Olympic Arms. The chamber ruptured, and I had it rebuilt with Colt parts. Was a great little rifle after that.
