What if every ballot, Local, State, and Federal, had an extra line that said "None of the Above"?
If the None of the Above line got more votes than the candidates the parties would have to put up new candidates.
Those of us who normally vote against someone would have a place where your vote would count.
Would it force the parties to get some respectable candidates for a change?
Of course the parties would never let the ballots be changed, it would allow the independents and third party candidates to have a chance.

OH! I like that idea. Too bad it'll never happen. Kinda like the anti-war theme in the 60's, What if they held a war and nobody came?

DLK,

The problem with "None of the above" is that by not voting for the best gun rights candidate you cast your vote for the worst.

We had Clinton bucause people voted for none of the above Ross Perot.

Current President Bush is probably president because people voted for none of the above Ralph Nader.

The parties ain't the best. But we must use them to retain our rights.

If all shooters voted for none of the above then the mainstream candidates could simply ignore us.

Cast your vote where it best counts even if it's not an ideal choice.

DLK,
At present, our candidate choices are somewhat simplified: the Republicans tend to defend the Constitution as it is written, support our 2nd Amendment rights somewhat, and resist total Socialist perversion of our somewhat free society. The Democratic (Socialist) party STANDS for abject Socialism and would tax and deprive our citizens into compliant subjectivity, disarm all their "subjects" to pre-empt any revolt to restore freedom and individual rights, put us under U.N. control and a National/International Police Force installed to enforce Socialist compliance.
The Independent and other residual fringe parties are usually ignored or used as "lame ducks" unless they pose a serious threat, in which case the key representatives are demonized, skeletons dug up, and dirt aired by the two main parties until the opposition goes away.
One thing that complicates the whole election process is the Demo/Socialist's last minute substitution of faltering candidates with more well known Socialist figures, in illegal maneuvers, with total support by Socialist courts. The Republicans are denied the ability to do the same.
If a political party with a reputation for both breaking AND ignoring laws gains the majority of control of our government, we're back to the Clinton Socialist /Criminal era. We're still paying for that both financialy and moraly.

AND, Given a new chance it will get much worse with the latest ammunition given the socialist liberals (AKA shootings in MD and DC area) for our gun rights. My Son heard some talking head on ABC in the wee small hours the other day posing that maybe we should look at regulating telescopic sights and rifles that use them!
The socialist morons think that regulating "tools" will stop evil people from doing evil things, they need to pull their heads out of their a..........the sand.

Why is conservation working so well with a abundance of deer for example? HUNTERS and all the money they provide through licensing and taxes on their equipment. I do not care if the "bangers" kill each other off with illegal wapons, Darwin will win out in the end! It has absolutly nothing to do with the millions of honest and legal hunters, shooters and sportsmen out there. SHEESH! they make me sick!

Many years ago I predicted that the next major target, after "Saturday Night Specials," (i.e., inexpensive handguns) and "Assault Weapons," (i.e., any semi-automatic, pump action or lever action rifle or handgun with the ability to accept high cap mags) would be "sniper rifles," the definition being any rifle equipped with a scope. Funny thing is that, at the ranges this guy was shooting, and considering he only shot one time each shooting, a peep-sighted Ruger Number One would have served him as well as a scoped AR-15. For some reason this fact hasn't sunken into any liberal brain yet.

I have been on that bandwagon myself also for years, too many of my hunter "only" friends were to blase' about handguns and "assault" rifles to care. It will now come back to bite em in the ass!

Any idiot with a modicum of shooting experiance and open sights could do what this guy did, but the "scoped sniper rifle" has a ring to it, makes another neat ralling cry for the anti's and hides their real agenda.

Something for ALL to ponder on:

After he was imprisoned in Dachau Martin Niemller wrote:
"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out -
because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out -
because I was not a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out -
because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me."

It's easily adapted to our predicament. There are FAR too many people who own firearms who are much too willing "to be reasonable" and go along with gun bans because they don't appear to affect them.

I could not remember the exact thing, I finally borrowed it from a friend verbatim.

Yes, if I were inclined towards mayhem, I could do exactly what this sniper did using a .45 caliber Civil War era target rifle loaded with conicals. The only other piece of equipment that I would need (and I wouldn't strictly need it) would be a good laser range finder. Three hundred yard shots would be a breeze.
