Was in the Houston area today and stopped by an Academy store to kill some time. Looked over the reloading supplies (they dont carry powder) and found 2 boxes of 160 gr FTX for reloading the 30-30, bought both of them.
Was looking at the .22LR and saw a 42 gr HP Winchester ammo, so I bought a box to try them. Also got a box of the Aquilla 40 gr. 2 box limit.
Never have seen this particular Win ammo before. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Believe I saw on another thread here that they're made in Australia. Supposed to be a good killer and accurate.

I don't see a 42 gr load listed @ http://www.winchester.com/Products/rimfire-ammunition/Performance/super-x-rimfire/Pages/default.aspxI have shot a lot of the 40 grain Super X subsonic hollow point (X22LRSUBA) both at squirrels and rimfire silhouette and found it to be a really good value, accurate and effective. I'm down to the last couple bricks and can't find it anywhere and I'm pretty sure I won't get it for $1.83 a box like the last case when I do!

This is what the box looks like and I tried to get a pic of the info, but the print was too small. Info: 22LR, 42grain, 1320 fps, copper plated Max hollow point I was hoping it was about 1000-1100 fps. 40 gr ammo in this speed range seem to shoot best in my gun, from past experience, but had to give these a try. Always wanted to try a heavier bullet.

That's the Aussie load, it has an excellent reputation for killing cats and foxes in Oz. No reason it wouldn't do the same thing here.
Good score.

A friend gave me a box of Aguila 20 grain, no powder, only primer, I believe. My box says Cuernavaca, Mexico. Haven't heard of the Winchester 42 grain.

I use the Aguila Super Colibri, 20 gr no powder, to shoot in here in town. They are quieter than my old pellet gun. Coons, skunks, possums, etc., it will work on any of them, but you gotta get close. I havent seen the 60gr, but if they are shorts, I would have to single shot them.

Randy, OAL is same as LR. That long bullet is loaded in a short case. Can't recall the details now. Old timers said Remington used to load such ammo.

long heavy bullet and stability is generally nil from what I've heard.
One of these days I'll try some I guess for grins.
But I think youhave to mostly be specially twisted to have any luck with SSS

At longer ranges that was my find(more the 15 yards). At one time Aguila was selling barrels with faster twist.

I'd like to try that load if availability comes my way. Let us know how they perform.

You WOULD THINK, that today, they'd just keep making to try to catch up, wihtout coming out wiht new ideas...
I've been waiting a year to find a certain CCI subsonic prefrag... shoots SO well in my guns with cans, and I'll buy a case likely... they can't seem to remember to make it, had been easily available before but I was caught pants down not expecting the run on ammo... have plenty of 22, just not the best stuff....

I tried them today and my gun, 77-22, and it didn't like them. At 50 yds, they shot about a 2" group.
Tried them in a Cooper and another bull barrel 77-22, and the cooper shot them best, but it was still an 1" group at 50 yds.

I have shot a bunch of Super Colibris in various short barreled rifles. Shot a few in my CZ unless a bullet got stuck in the barrel. Now I don't shoot them in anything with a barrel longer than 16 inches.
