You did great! Looks like it's in pretty nice shape. I've been looking for a .250 for some time, and would've snapped it up too.

In my humble opinion you will not regret your new acquisition.Looks like a sound investment to me. I just hope you fully understand this will do nothing but blossom. You have fueled the Savage addiction, and will continue to accumulate / acquire / collect Savage 1899 / 99s.

Front sight doesn't look quite right but still a good deal from where I set.

Any 250-3000 in that condition for that price is a good buy. [Sights are easily replaced.]

Was the seller a portly white guy with silver hair and glasses and no beard? Don't know his name but might be the same one I seen in San Antonio about a month ago.

"Portly white guy with silver hair" describes a lot of us on this site.

Looks good, I'd say price is definitely fair. I'd consider taking some bronze wool and a bit of gun oil to the receiver. Looks like something dirty got on it.

The front sight is likely an add on, but BFD. That's a purdy rifle!

I'd say it was like finding a $300 bill laying on the sidewalk.

You did well Chris. It is in better condition than my .250- which has been drilled (non-factory) for a scope- and I paid more! Agree with the previous posts that this will only lead to more.
For what it is worth, I've had great luck with factory Remington loads (100 grain), the old Winchester factory loads (100 grain Silvertip) and reloads using the 87 grain Speer. The factory loads are tough to find but can be scrounged on auction sites occassionally and the odd gun shop. Every gun is different but those should be a good place to start.

Yep, my 250 likes the 100 gr Remington and Winchesters. My hunting buddy was at a show last week and a guy had a 100 count box of the Speer 87's, so he grabbed them for me. He's gonna load a few 87's up for me and see how the old R likes them. That's a nice one you got there, Joe.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
