Just looking for input from those who live in the two states listed above. Wife and I are thinking about going on a new adventure. Wife has family in Cheyenne and mostly just want to go get some new scenery.

Hunting and outdoors are important but ability to find work is most important. Are there many welding/millwright/Electrical tech job opportunities? Really looking to get to a more conservative state to raise my kids as we just found out we are expecting number 4.

Thanks for any input
David

Titanium plant is moving to Laramie, WY from another state. Might want to check into that.
Also wouldn't hurt to check with university of Wy in Laramie for maintanence electrician type stuff.

I am also very interested in moving to one of the listed states so I'm interested to see what input you get.

In eastern Iowa now, grew up here and moved back after i got out of the Marines. Just getting tired of the poor me crap from everyone and the family isnt a whole lot better.

The deer hunting here is good but the crime is starting to get bad and schools, while not terrible, leave much to be desired.

Finishing up school now and looking to relocate, miss the moves in the service. Wanderlust maybe.

We own our house free and clear so if we can sell it it should put a chunk down on a new place. Finding work is the big thing as the wife stays home with the kids so need a reliable job in order to move.

Both states have a lot desirable attributes.

But, like anywhere, they both have their problems as well.

A good-paying job is a must unless you want to barely scrape along. Wages in Montana are pretty paltry compare to most other places. The exceptions would be some of the skilled labor like what you described as doing.

We have crime, we have trash (white and brown), and we have drugs etc. But if you are smart about where you go, we also have some great locations to raise families, we have good accessible hunting, we have good fishing etc.

It isn't paradise, but it suits and serves me and mine well.

How much will the places your looking at differ in the winter time then where you are now? Maybe something maybe nothing just a thought. I know the older I get cold winters just interest me less

I'm envious of anyone living in Montana or Idaho

I'm too midwestern to ever leave my comfort zone but I'd like to live a little more independent life out there.

anyone that has ever flown into the Salt Lake City airport, seeing the view will make you want to move there.

You might want to watch this video before considering a move to Montana. I sure wish I had.

Montana is great if you can figure out how to make a livable wage.
