I currently load for the .257 Roberts and .280 Remington, and will be starting to load for a .300H&H very soon. I am down to small amounts of a couple powders, N160 and H4350; all my 4831 is gone. Powder is hard to come by these days but I have a chance to get 8 lbs of Hodgdon's Hybrid H100V, which is supposed to burn right between H4350 and H4831. I see it's a real performer velocity-wise in the .257 Roberts, pretty good for the .280 Remington and very good in the .300 WSM, data from which is very similar to the .300 H&H. Eight pounds would do me for a while, but it is fairly pricey so I just want to see what people's experience with this powder is.

John Barsness says it's temperature sensitive...and I live near the Arctic Circle. Maybe I'll try harder to find 4831 and 4350.

Did John also point out that the Extremes are NOT universal properties, and that by their own testing most of the benefits are not statistically valid?

He did not. Do you have any info about H100V you'd pass on?

I use it in my 257 Roberts and 300 WSM and I have had good results. It may be temp sensitive but if you use it in full or nearly full charges it looses some of sensitivity. Graf & Sons has 8lbs jugs right now for $139 on the dealers side, plus Hazmat.

It's been the best powder I have tried in my .257 Roberts, both in terms of accuracy and velocity. Give it a try.

All I pointed out in my post about H100V was that it lost more velocity from 70 degrees down to zero with 165-grain bullets than any other powder tested, 176 fps. In contrast, I have yet to see any of the Extremes lose more than 20 fps in the same test, whether in the .30-06 or any other cartridge.
Have also pointed out numerous times that temp- resistance is dependent on the specific application. But in general have not gotten great results from any powder designed for higher velocities in specific applications when making the same test, shooting the same rifle with the same ammo over the same chronograph, when the ambient temperature of everything (not just the ammo) was 70 or zero. Which is what happens when we hunt.

TTSX at over 3,200 fps. and with half inch groups. The temp thing is a secondary issue for me. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/10332782DF

I did also just find 8-lb jugs of H4831 available. Because it is my favourite in my .280 and my last .300 H&H shot well with it, I may just go with that. If I find 1-lb H100V I can try it as well. It's worked well in a few Roberts rifles as well.
