So I am looking to purchase a new hunting rifle. Most of my hunting has been done with bolt guns. But I am looking at purchasing a BLR take-down model in 358 win. Here are some reasons why.

Weight - I have some service related medical conditions that have been getting worse and lugging around a 8-10 pound rifle has been becoming burdensome.

Size - It would be good for travel, many of the hurting trips I take are ancillary to other reasons for the trip; training, school or work. So it would be nice to have something that folds away.

Caliber - I love 35's and 9.3's, plus due to issues related to those above my above my max effective range is 150-200 yards for shooting.

I have some experience with some older BLRs, I have a BLR in 358. This is a great gun capable of good field shooting. But I am wondering about the take-down models. How are they? I worry about the take-down parts, are they hardy, will they standard up to heavy field use?

What has been you experiences.

The only lever I currently have is the BL-22. I used to have a regular BLR in 308, not takedown.

I think the quality would be great. Don't expect the trigger to be as crisp as most stock bolt guns, or especially a 'tuned' trigger/aftermarket.

Do you plan on scoping it? How do you hunt/ranges? I do like light & handy myself. Most big game hunting comes down to that 1st well placed shot.

Lately I've enjoyed carrying the Browning 'Micro-Hunter', light and easy. The lever does have more to offer with the 'cool' factor.

Over the years I had a couple of beater Savage 99 TDs. Same deal in that the scope mounted to the receiver and the barrel removed. One was a straight screw in and out, the other had interrupted threads. Both were plenty accurate for 250 yard shots.

No experience with the Browning. Interested in other's experiences as well.

My only TDs now are Blaser and TC. Different deal. The scopes attach to the barrels. The Browning takes down into a shorter package than the Blaser, which I like.

My brother has a take down model in 7mm-08 and it is a sweet little lever gun. I've shot it many times and it is accurate and handles really well. I have a 358 Win bolt action and it too is a gem. Would love to have a BLR in 358 Win myself.

These rifles pique my curiosity too but see the thread above this one on the BLR and Big Stick"s work with one. I don't think his BLR was the take-down model but anything he had to say concerning it would be worth listening to.

That lightweight stainless, take-down is a good looking rifle to my eyes.
