She loves to fly fish and she's been doing that for 24 years now. She has no interest in big game hunting with me and I'm cool with that. She does want to try upland hunting this year with me just to watch our dog in action and hunt. I'm starting my researching now because I was just in a gunshop that has two shotguns(Stevens O/U, Pointer o/u) I'm unfamiliar with. I'm thinking one of those or a stoeger or cheap CZ. What would you get? Thanks!

I would look for something easy to load and carry that wont have too much recoil.

Yeah they had 28 gauge over and unders in both those manufacturers I'm acquiring about. She had to work today, so I didn't get to take her there. We will be though.

Clean used remington Lt. 20 1100. Plenty of youth stocks available as well as barrels. A upland special would also be nice.

Has she shot any clay targets? Might want to start at the local gun club, there is much to glean with some practice..

But if you want to go O/U, I'd take a good look at the newer model Savage in 20ga.

Yeah she's shot clay birds with me and her dad sometimes her two brothers aswell. She shoots my Veloce decent, but I use that for grouse and that's what she wants to hunt with me. She may get lucky, but I doubt she even gets c a shot off at a ruffed grouse. I was thinking maybe she had a chance with some blues or spruce grouse, but I don't know I never hunted them myself. I'm a seasoned eastern grouse hunter and I know shes not good enough for any of those. Maybe in time if she takes this as serious as she seems now she probably will get one some day. Any of you use any of the pointers or new stevens? Maybe I'll let her use my veloce and I'll pick one of those two up. Bad comes to worse I could always use it as a truck gone along with the old 30 30

Nothing wrong with the 1100 at all, but I'm an over under guy and so is her whole family. She'd probably th I nk I'd be setting her up with the semi....lol. Her dad does use a 1187 for turkey nowadays though, so she's seen that one. I'd like to keep it simple and keep with the old break open.

Plus, I've never owned a 28 gauge or even fired one. If she ends up not liking grouse hunting I'll have another toy. I'm thinking she will enjoy it though. She loves taking our dogs for walks daily in the woods always has and she actually mentioned to me about going with me this year. I asked her on and off m over b the years and gave up the last couple. I think it's because she's so bored in North Dakota and yearning to move to Montana

In your shoes, I would take her to town and let her pick one out. Be sure it fits her, and make it purty (her definition of purty). A Stoeger or Baikal coach gun would probably put at least as many birds in the grass, but they ain't purty.

I handled the stevens 555 today in 12 gauge and I must say it feels good in hand and points nicely for me. I've read some negative reviews of them double firing.

Im now looking at mossberg silver reserve and cz ultralight. Although, I've been wanting a citori for quite awhile. Maybe I'll giver her the veloce and get myself a browning or better yet treat myself to a matching set 12 and 20

Sorry to mislead you I wasn't offering one for sale, just offering an opinion on a reliable light kicking shotgun that can be found for a decent price.

Beretta 686 28 ga, would be my first choice.

If shot very much, most if not all of the inexpensive O/U's suffer from trigger issues.

Cheap upland gun ? Used 20 ga. Ithaca 37. Ain't no such thing as a good, cheap double.

Don't cheap out too much. Look for a little better quality, older, used 20-gauge SxS or over/under, rather than the cheapest new one you can find.

Yeah I'm thinking I'm going to give her this veloce. I've never hunted with a side by side. I'm an o/u guy. Id love to get my hands on an LC Smith. I was up in Maine early 2000's working on a pipeline and I traveled down to Kittery Trading post with my brother in law who is a Maine resident for almost 30th years now. I had a field grade in my hand and I should of snagged it. I've regretted it ever since. He walked out with a the Ithaca Lafever. At the time I wanted to try a semi and bought a FRANCHI autoloader. Any of you fellas have a lafever or smith or something on those lines you wanna sale let me know.
