I saw the DPMS Oracle in 7.62 at Sportsman's Warehouse for about $750. Is that a good deal? Is that a decent rifle?

I don't NEED an AR and don't get too excited about 5.56 but 7.62 is a different story.

Thanks
SH

I'd pass. The price sounds attractive but I would rather have a different rifle.

For an entry level AR-308, it's not bad for price. It's decent base-line rifle to experiment with, and can be upgraded later if you want.

If it turns out not to be a keeper, the return on investment isn't likely to be too much difference.

The handguards are functional, expect the collapsible stock fit to be sloppy and rattle. The gas block top is lower than the top of the upper receiver, so adding iron sights will take a riser for the front sight, or a sight made for the lower plane. Since the front sight has to mount on the gas block, you have to get a metal set, the Magpul (polymer) will melt.

If you can, try the trigger on the one you are buying. May be OK, may be heavy, may be gritty, hard to say without trying it.

DPMS has a rep for peaks and valleys in their quality control. If you read back through the posts on here, there are success stories, and issues with quality, customer service, and new product issues.

I have a troy I think folding front sight that fits one of those low gas blocks if you want it I will sell it cheap. If it don't work you can send it back.

Yes, that's a great price. I paid $900 for mine a few years ago, and I shopped around.

I almost pulled the trigger on one myself, as my local Sportsman's Warehouse had them on sale for $699, which I thought was a steal. But then, I decided to pass since I wasn't sure how accurate it would be, and it is bad enough chasing 5.56 brass around. Might be the first time I ever got the green light from my wife, and then passed on the firearm...
