I have had these now for almost 15 years. I need to do something with these before I get too much older. What do you think?[Linked Image]Untitled by vonfilm, on Flickr[Linked Image]Untitled by vonfilm, on Flickr[Linked Image]Untitled by vonfilm, on Flickr[Linked Image]Untitled by vonfilm, on Flickr[Linked Image]Untitled by vonfilm, on Flickr[Linked Image]Untitled by vonfilm, on Flickr

In November of 2000, I purchased this pair of 1909 DWM manufactured Argentine Mauser actions in excellent condition. My original plan was to have a matched pair of custom rifles built up with checkered walmut furniture. Lately I have been thinking synthetic stocks. To ensure good cartridge feeding I would use a cartridge in the 30-06 family.

Cartidges considered included 25-06, 280 Ackley Improved, 35 Whelen, and 338-06. My latest feeling is for 25-06 and 35 Whelen. I already have 30-06, 7mm RM, and .308 Norma Magnum.

I have been talking with a young gunsmith in a small town about an hour from me who would allow me to pay him as each stage is completed. I will be on a budget.

I don't know if it makes any financial sense to customize a Mauser action these days, but I have enjoyed the ones that I have.I don't want these to go to waste. I know that I could not afford to purchase a forged Mauser action built today. What a contrast between the 1909 action and the Tikka T3 that I just purchased. They appeal in different ways.

I love those south american mausers, wish I could find a good action up here and do a nice build on it. (economics be damned)
Makes sense to have "a deer rifle" and a "medium" on them. I would likely build a 7x57 and a 9.3x62, but you could easily talk me into a 270 ( or 25-06) and a 35 whelen.

This was the first thing to come to my mind depending on whether you prefer "Continental" chamberings, or, "North American" chamberings...

Almost what I am planning on doing, with pair of FN mausers

7x57 and 9,3x62.

- "Weld"/sweat a peep sight on the rear bridge
- Barreld mounted swingswiwel and front sight
- Gold inlayed "SAFE" & "FIRE" on safety
- Alaska Arms Trigger
- Nice pair of matched Walnut stocks with red pad
- Rust blued

I have been sporterized Mausers since I was 14.
I am 64 now.
It is never worth it.
You have to want to do it.

Synthetic stocks, McWoody or hydrodipped to exhibition grade walnut appearance.

Three position safety installed. NECG banded front sight, three leaf rear sight. QD rings, with a flip up receiver peep.

SS barrel, cerakote barrel and action to a midnight blue to mimic rust bluing.

.25-06/.257Roberts and .338-06/.35Whelen, or 6.5x57/7x57 and 9.3x62. Identical barrel lengths (23") and contours. Fast twist to stabilize higher BC bullets.

Look like old school, perform like new school.

I would follow your first thoughts. Those look like some nice actions. A beautiful matched pair sitting in Walnut. Call Sharon Dressel. She usually has a few match pair blanks on hand.

This - I'd go Swede and Whelen.

I used one of those actions years ago and made a really nice 9.3X62. A 7X64 would have made a really nice match for it.

Last week I had a chance to fondle both a Kimber Montana and Mountain Ascent. I was very impressed with them. It would probably cost me less to buy both than build the 2 actions into custom rifles.I don't know if I have the patience to start the project.

My recent purchase of a TIkka T3 Lite 30-06 has really caused me to consider how far rifles have come in the last few years.

Terry, that is one beautiful rifle.

Well we're Green and we're Gold, and we play better when it's cold. All us Cheese heads have our favorite superstar. We love Brett Favre.
