As a parallel to Tex's best CQB long gun thread.........what do you like & why?

I've been using 1-4 or 1-6 Illuminated scopes for the most part for a variety of reasons, mainly flexibility, but would like to here what you all prefer.

Aimpoint T1/H1

Its small, no caps or lens covers to fumble with, well made, long battery life.

I'm using a VX6 Firedot 1-6 for my do it all gun but have been missing my H1 on my HD gun. Right now it wears an ACOG but I'm thinking about another red dot.

Love the eo-thingie's reticle but the last EXPS2-0? I had shut off on me after a shot, I've owned about 6-7 of them from the N battery version to the AA's and had some problem or another with them. I thought they got it figured out with the newest version, guess they didn't.

So now I'm thinking H2 Aimpoint, supposed to be better glass? I will never have NV so the T2 is un needed. But a buddy has a PRO on order and I might try one of those.

I've used an Aimpoint micro for years with zero complaints. I like eotechs, just wish they were a little more rugged and without the auto shut off and minimal battery life. I think the variable power is a better all around optic but for pure speed, the red dot still reigns supreme.

I compared the new T2 with the T1. The T2 improvements are to my eyes not improvements and not worth the extra money. I just bought a second T1 with 2MOA dot. I did try an eotech once, good sight poor battery life, another thing to remember to do when you don't have time to do anything. "On and Off"

Yep, the Aimpont Micro T2 is always on. Nothing to remember to do prior to an encounter as far as the optics go. It's just on. Change out the battery every New Year's Day (to be super conservative) and you're good. No need to even flip up the covers since they are see-through.

Aimpoint PRO

I tried to post a link to hopcousa, but this iPad is giving me fits again.

Anyway the hopcousa mount is for M1/M1As. It lets put a fast fire or some other reddot sight in place of the irons.

I've run various sights/scopes and still have the Aimpoint H1 and SWFA SS 1-6. I've said it many times but the SWFA SS 1-6 is very well designed and it built like a tank. The 1x reticle is incredibly fast and the 6x mils make longer shots no problem.

We were at the range tonight and I let my friend shoot my ARs (his first time ever) and he was cleaning up Costco water bottles at 200 and jugs at 330 and made it look easy. Needless to say he's HOOKED on the AR now and that SS 1-6 gets the lion's share of the credit. IME, it's the best AR sight you can get your hands on!

Costco water and a $900 optic? I spent significant $ on my LMTCQB, and I have some nice Leupold glass on some sporting rifles, but the cost of the SWFA optic is breath taking. If it is a potential lifesaver in battle, it's worth it. How about something for paper and varmints?

You can pick up what you want from that post. I picked up on the fact that there's a guy out there that never owned/shot an AR and is planning on buying one now.

Choose and use whatever optic you like but when folks pick up my AR and actually try out this scope, they leave wanting one. There are better optics out there for long range or low light but for overall versatility and speed, this one rings the bell IME.

The NF is a great optic but it's only 1-4 and is $500 more than a 1-4 SWFA SS. Plus, the reticle on the SS 1-4 is much more versatile than the NF IMO.

While cost is a consideration, the weight is more a concern to me. I chose a VX6 1-6 with the firedot. At 8 oz less and the same money it lacks the better reticle and probably doesn't track nearly as precise but so far the cds dial has been spot on. Glass is great and the power range is very useful.

But I still have an acog and now the T2 along with a 1.5-5 on another AR, they all have their place and I don't feel handicapped with any of them but the T2 at distance. Up close it shines though.

Guess I should read the title, for close up its the T2 by a mile.

Though the 1-6 is more versatile.

Beautiful Fall day in Great Lakes area today and spent nice afternoon with friends at range today. Shot S&W 41 (22), nice old 3 screw Ruger 41mag & LMT ..... All at paper targets with factory iron sights. Fortunate to have friend whose son sends dad some 5.56 mil spec ammo from time to time. LMT puts that in 3" with LMT iron peeps @ 50 yds on rest. Thinking of just using an old Leupold 3x9 for glass optic with Leupold rings as LMT has solid P rail front to back.
