I Just got my Marlin 336 XLR, in 35 Remington back from my gunsmith. The barrel was cut back to 21" from the factory 24". It was just too long! The rifle felt so darn awkward to carry! Now it balances much better as well.

I installed a Leupold 1.5-8X36 silver ultra light scope on it yesterday. Benn having fun the last few days shooting cast 195 grain Ranch Dog flat points at 2025 fps. Fun stuff!

Hope you like the pictures!

Your 336 XLR rig looks great yet the barrel looks longer from the end of the magazine tube than 21 inches....could just be the angle of the pictures.

Are you casting your own .35 ranch dog bullets ??

Yes, I cast my own bullets. Its a great winter time activity! I will be trying some straight WW alloys this winter, and maybe add some tin to increase mould fill and bullet toughness for performance on game animals. I dont need to push my velocities much past 2000fps.

I took the pictures from different angles to give a person a good overall view of the proportions. The barrel is a measured 21" inches now. I almost wish I went with 18.5 or 19". Lol!

The most suprising thing for me was that my best performing load before shortening the barrel, still shoots just as good as before, but had a small"INCREASE" in muzzle velocity!

Doesnt make any scence does it?! The velocity is within 10fps of the previous barrel length.

Thanks for the response to my post.

I chopped my 336A to 20" myself and re-finished the stock, now a 336G and love it compared to the 24" barrel.
