On another thread it was discussed what .223 brass is better for reloading; Lake City vs Remington.

When reloading the 7.62x51 / .308 Win for the M1A or FAL, etc.,

WHAT is the BETTER flavor of brass for reloading that caliber?

Specifcally, how good is LC brass for reloading the .308 for use in a SA MBR? grin

THANKS!

LC brass is thick and tough which is what you want.

I posted some results I had with federal made LC brass in my M1A. This was new brass bought from Cabela's.
It did poorly, 3-4 MOA. Same loads with Privi Partisan brass purchased from Powder Valley, or Cabela's,did 1.6-2.0 MOA. Privi brass is within a few grains of the weight of LC brass. E

What load did you use?

What runout did the cartridges in new brass have?

Did you compare them after a second loading?

The load was 44 grs. of Ramshot TAC w. CCI #34 primers. Same load I've used with the Privi brass. Bullets used were Sierra 150 gr. FMJ/BT's, and Sierra 150 gr. GameKings. LC brass is only a few grains heavier than Privi's.
Used them up to three times. Tried trimming the cases, something I've never bother with in the M1A. Same results.
I don't have an RCBS Case Master. But I do have a flat piece of glass that I roll them on. All new brass, Hornady, Prvi and LC will show some runout when new, unsized brass is used.
After I full lenth size them, w/o the neck expander/decapper on my RCBS dies, they make straight ammo.
This Lake city brass was not match grade brass, BTW.
