VarmintGuy sounds like a guy that's been in Butte running his mouth and had the [bleep] kicked out of him -- just saying.

How?
Butte Dems are still "industrial" Democrats. Everybody's last name ends in Vich. The heritage was, WORKING class Americans. That's considerably different from post-industrial or never-industrial welfare statism.
Because of that history, Butte is not full of the usual earth-muffins, or at least not as bad as Bozone or Missoula -- except on St Paddys Day. Went there "drinking" twice -- actually, a couple snorts and then coffee. The people watching is worth remembering.
That said, Butte is moving further away from its history and heritage every year. So is Anaconda. They elect some real peaches, especially now that the old guard is dying off.

I had a friend move out of Sidney because of the crime. The big influx of oil field workers didn't help much.

I'm sorry but "dangerous" and "Montana" don't really go together IMO.

Ya, but Butte has porkchop sandwiches.
I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.

MarlinMark: YOU are exactly right - Butte is the anus of the United States of America when it comes to deadbeats, druggies, ex-cons, union militants, drunks, scum bags, welfare rats, food stamp scammers, thieves, burglars and malcontents! Butte is simply THE WORST town in Montana - maybe there is SOME "technicality" that keeps them off the list but I try to spend as little time there as possible and its about the only town in America where I carry concealed (without being paid to do so!)! I am shaking my head at this list - I will have to do some investigating myself. Sheesh. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy Hilarious. I look forward to going to Butte every chance I get - one of my favorite towns...

Agreed. I've been through a bunch of the towns on that list at all hours of the day and night. Never felt threatened in the least. Driving to them is far more likely to get you hurt. : )

I have only been to Butte once. But I thought it was a very nice looking place.

Mudstud, Indians have a great sense of humor, if you get it.
They are fun to be around if it's just drinking a few beers but watch the whiskey!
I was friends with a bunch of Indian kids back in high school. Still see some of my old buddies around, some have died, some I wouldn't recognize.
The Rez can be a HARD place to live.
The couple that own the Sherman are neighbors, great people.

Hardin still gives me the creeps, and its been 10 years since we've set foot in there. About 25 years ago or so, my wife and I were on a trip and thought we would pull into Hardin to get a burger, never having been there before. We pulled in and pulled right back out again, immediate U-turn, never even stopped for anything, not even a stop sign.

Travis I don't know....that Buffalo Bull that appeared out of the fog standing about a foot from the highway one winter night when I was whizzing through West Yellowstone in a 92 Toyota looked pretty "dangerous" to me....fuggers head was bigger than my truck....if I'd a hit him head on I doubt he would have even known....

Sam, while talking to the same fellow at the Sherman, a little miniature Doberman came walking in from the motel, and sat down right by this fellows bar stool. He looked at me and said, "that dog wouldn't be sitting there if he knew I was a Sioux!" Then he proceeded to tell me how great his grandmother used to make dog stew. In bygone years, I stayed at the Sherman quite a lot. Generally confined my drinking to the motel, but now and then would wander on down town and drink with the locals. Always found them friendly, but I never accepted invitations to go to house parties after hours.
Talk is cheap. It takes money to buy whiskey.

I have had the good fortune to travel over most of Montana, especially after I retired in 1999.. Have been to all the towns mentioned at one time or another.. Except Wolf Point and Popular.. They are on my list to visit.. Never felt threatened or intimidated in any town.. Folks were always friendly.. I did watch a show about a kid accused of murder in Popular that was up for a chance to get out of prison.. But due to the influence of the people to tried him the first time and were now important state figures, he was made to remain in prison.. It did look like he was railroaded..
While I never felt danger in any town, I was planning to stop at the Jim Town Bar, north of Forsythe I believe, I had read about this spot in a book about Montana's Bars.. It was Sunday as we drove by, a couple really fat and obviously drunk
