3031 never gave me good velocity or accuracy in four different guns, ymmv. 4350 is my go to powder for heavy bullets, may work great with 100s.

R17 is working great for me and 100s in a 250 AI. Varget gave great results too but lower velocities.

Based on my experience only, if I had to pick one powder for use with 100 grain bullets in both the .250 Savage and .250 AI it would be H4895. Velocities may not be the highest, but overall accuracy has been great. Other powders that come close would include one of the 4350s, Varget, and H414.
I have never tried 3031, but it may be a good one.

Agree with lotech on the H-4895 with 100 grain bullets. In my 700 Classic, it would give .7 MOA at 2830 fps. 3031 has given excellent accuracy with 87 grain Speers out of a 99.

Well, then you've got a good 1-10" ROT barrel and all bullet weights should work!

TC Kenon, one of the long departed great gunsmith's loved the 250. I was fortunate to know him before he passed. When I asked him what was the preferred powder he said 4064 without hesitation. I still use it. It is accurate and gives the velocity.

You might try 33 grains of 3031 under a 100 grain bullet. It's the load listed in my old tan IMR powders guide, and in the 46th ed. Lyman manual it's starred as potentially most accurate.

I've loaded for at least a dozen .250's and with 100-grain bullets, powders in the 4895 burn-rate range usually produce the best accuracy, which would of course include not just two two 4895's (H and IMR) but RL-15, Varget, 4064, etc. etc. In one rifle Accurate 2495 shot best, but the difference usually isn't much between any of those powders, certainly not enough to make any difference on a deer. Wouldn't be surprised if 3031 worked too.
With 115-120 grain bullets (if your rifle is twisted for them) slower powders usually shoot better. Have had good results with the 4350's, H4831SC and Ramshot Big Game.

IMR 4350 works great in my 14" twist model 1920 savage with the 100 gr hot cores. I haven't tried many other powders, mostly because I have two lifetimes worth of 4350.
