Oh man does this bring back memories! I've got three of those blonde little girls that aren't that little any more, but they too have been hunting with me from the time they were just getting their wheels underneath them. I still laugh when I think of the time the oldest, probably about 4 at the time was soaked to the top of her head while pheasant hunting because of the heavy dew on the grass and bushes. Spent most of the day carrying her piggy back, but she kept going with me.

Then the middle one who, at the age of three, went to look for antelope with me. I spotted a buck just off the side of the road about 300 yards with a sneak opportunity. I told Camryn to stay in the pickup and I'd be right back. I probably hadn't made it a 100 yards when I turn around to find her about 40 yards behind me, lol. That had to be a classic sight, me and a 3 year old belly crawling over the rise for a shot, lol. Then after then after the shot seeing her grab the spent casing, dropping it, and whispering "hot", lol.

That, not so little girl, killed her first elk this year, and not only did she hold her own packing her elk out, but we helped a couple of older fella's pack his bull out.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread, just brings back some damned good memories. By reading this it is obvious that you "get" what it's all about! They grow up fast, but you've got a hunting partner for life! Thanks for starting my day off right!

Great story, Just yesterday my oldest ask if next year she could tag along on a hunt. She claims she wants to be a doctor when she grows up and that would be an excellent opportunity to do some surgery and have biology lesson!

Well thanks guys. I showed Addy your kind words and she is flattered. As our freezer was already pretty stocked thanks to Mama's elk, we got to give away the quarters to family members for Thanksgiving. She was very proud and I could honestly tell all that we only had it due to her.

Kenneth: This is about 1.5 hr from home in the SW of MT. I only expected to find elk to hunt for the afternoon, where the kids just can't make it. This was an unexpected opportunity.

Willarights: I sometimes use a tarp to make a meat sled, when I anticipate correctly. The tarps I have are leftover from a covered building I installed years ago (maybe you've seen them--they are shaped like a Quonset but covered with a taut fabric). The material is unbelievably strong and slick as anything. I fashioned some 5'x12' pieces into tight rolls I can throw in the pack; they weigh about 5 lbs so they only make it along when conditions are right.
