Set back in a 1/4" or so.

Should be like this on a SS, they say...

That looks more than 1/4" to me. Would only a 1/4" set back indicate an early model?

That's what they say.

So are you OK if they sent you old stock, something they decided not to sell but, because of inventory shortage, did? Seems like that may be the case.
