My lightweight 270 build is nearly complete. Stats are as follows.
Remington 700 action lightened and trued
pac-nor 1-8 featherweight barrel 24”
Wildcat composits stock
bare weight as it sits now is 6lbs 5oz. Not quite as light as I would have liked but still pretty good. I’m not sure where I could shed any weight and would like to keep this as light as possible. For now I have a leupold 3-9x40 VXII that I could use until I get something better.
My perferred criteria is
under 18oz, prefferably much lighter
can be either straight 6 or 3-9 variable
I would like adjustable objective and elevation turret
So far my short list is
Swarovski Z3 3-9x36 ( missing some features but very light)
Nightforce 2-10x32 ( at my upper limit for weight and price)
Custom shop leupy 2.5-8 CDS

How about a 6x42? What's that weigh?
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I would definately consider the Vortex Viper 3x9x40.
Very clear and good eye relief. I really like the power ring adjustments.

Seems to me putting a 19+ oz scope on a lightweight rifle is like bolt-on 38DD's on a 95lb, 5foot woman.
My choice for my two 270's is a 2.5-8x36 CDS on the Kimber MT, and 6x36LR on the Winchester 70 Fwt.
A light 3-9 or 3.5-10 wouldn't bother me either.

The Nightforce NXS Compact 2-10x42 is only one oz more. There is absolutely no way I would let 1 oz come between me and the larger exit pupil on the 42mm version. John

I agree Brad - should be about perfect!  OP Not sure how set you are on AO - I've never found much need at 10x and under. The SWFA SS 3-9x42 is worth looking into. I have two of them, will be purchasing a 3rd. Nice optics, tracking is extremely reliable and accurate. Tough as nails. A very nice hunting scope. David

Guess we have a different sense of what is "proportional"... I do too. No one has mentioned why a "lightweight build" would have a 24" barrel. Cutting it back to 22" would shave a few ounces. However, when it comes to scopes I'd go with a light 3-9 or at a minimum 2.5-8x36...

Is it BDL or ADL? All aluminum bottom metal? Cut the barrel to 22"? Talley lwt x-lows. 6x36 LR Leupold. Butler Creek Mountain Sling.

I like the 3.5-10X40 CDS on my M70. You might look at the Vortex Razor HD LH at 13.5-16.5 ounces they might be worth the look.

How about a 6x42? What's that weigh? In the 13 oz ballpark for the LR Duplex version. And I had forgotten Leupold does make an Competition Hunter Class 6x42 with AO. So it's possible. It comes with target turrets. Another good question is why a 270/hunting rifle needs AO and turrets. I will leave that debate for someone else. But I will say all of the animals I've killed I didn't take the time to refocus the scope. I'm a pretty quick shot though. But not as quick as Scotty! That dude is flat out amazing.

I have a Leupold 6x36 LRD on my "light weight" .270 Win at the moment (6lbs, 15oz all up). Unfortunately, the LRD's are not so clear for my aging eyes in low light. Just sent a 6x36 with Wide Duplex to Leupold Custom Shop to get a CDS elevation turret installed. The CDS will replace the LRD's when it returns. I'll just have to deal with the extra half ounce of weight.

I built this rifle with the 1-8 twist to handle the heavier, longer 270 bullets that have come out lately. I figured the extra 2” of featherweight contour coudln’t’ add that much and might be nice for burning slow powder.
I have a 2.5-8 leupold on a kimber montana in 308.
