My grandfather acquired this 270 from an acquaintance who was in the Korea during the Korean Conflict. The story I have been told is the gun was ordered by the guy and shipped to him in Korea. He got the gun and had the carving and engraving done by a Korean for a few packs of cigarettes....the gun has never been shot.

I am trying to get more information on the specifics of the story, but the date of manufacturer supports the story.

Very interesting. When I look at the grip carving, I think to myself that it probably isn't too comfortable to shoot.... I can see where the engraving could kind of grow on you too. You have a nice keepsake there with a cool story. Thanks for sharing..

Very Cool old Model 70. It is an original stock that was carved and the engraving while it detracts from an original collector looks very nicely done. I like it!

That is a really cool story.

My 1950 375 H&H was ordered the same way according to the grandson of the original owner. His grandpa died and they sold his collection. My 375 also has almost the exact same engraving.

I would be very interested what the engravers " mark" was? Whoever engraved mine left his mark on the trigger guard, under the barrel, and wrote in pencil on the inside of the stock in the channel.

Here are some pics of mine:

Here are a couple of the engraver marks:

and inside the trigger guard:

I have not tried to figure out who engraved or how to find it.

pre6422hornet, Thanks for sharing! Too Cool!

I have never disassembled this one. The next time I "dig" it out of the safe I will try to find some engraver marks.

Cool rifles fellas!

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H
