Anyone ever have a 308 788 bored and chambered in 358 Win? Curious about the magazine and feeding. Thanks!

I would see how well 358 ammo fits in the magazine before you send the rifle off. 358 should work because it is a 308-based cartridge, but the pressed steel magazines are a PITA to modify unless you have the tools and the skills.

I've seen a couple of 788s that were rebarreled in 25-284 and the magazines required a lot of work before the fed even marginally well, with an emphasis on "marginal".

Had a gunsmith friend in PENN who did one for a customer and was having a hard time with the magazine feeding rounds. Dont know if he ever solved the problem, hadnt talked to him in years and I believe he passed away in the late 90s.

I just did one a few months ago for a deer rifle. Since the magazines are straight line feeding(not staggered) and yours is starting as a .308, you shouldn't have any problems. The .358 Win. is based on the .308 case just necked up. Mine required no fitting but the feed lips might need a tiny tweak to get the entry angle perfect.

Regards.

nononsense, was this an easy task for you? The guy I knew had a heck of a time with the magazine he used.
