My recent Model 70 acquisition is topped with a Euro-Class 3 - 12 X 52 30mm scope. It doesn't look like any Tasco I ever saw before. I thought I'd just replace it with one of the VX III 2.5 X 8 I have here but its a 30mm with steel Redfield windage adj. bases so I'd need new rings and maybe bases. Anyone have any info? It seems heavy to say the least. Age? MSRP? Junk? Good? Better? Oh it's on a 243 so recoil is no issue. Thanks in advance

It's junk, lucky for you I'm a junk collector. They aren't your average Tasco. I'm interested if you're looking to sell.

I think they were Tascos' attempt to get into the higher end glass, nobody wanted to spend that kind of money for a Tasco.

Years ago, I read an article about those Euro class Tasco's and decided to try one. Supposedly they were a good low light scope, and that's what I was looking for. I put it on my deer rifle, and after one season, took it off and sold it. It wasn't as good a glass as a Tasco World Class scope I had at the time, and I just didn't care for it one bit.

I have some older Tasco's that were manufactured in Japan that I wouldn't part with .

I have a Tasco Titan. I think they are similar to the Euro-Class. Mine's a 30mm 1.5-6x42 that I have on my 30-06 Browning BAR LongTrac. Very good glass that I have no interest in letting go of.

From what I've seen concerning Tasco's it depends on where it was made and when. I bought a new Tasco 3-9x 40mm World Class in early 1996 that was made in Korea and had it on a sporterized #4 MK I Lee-Enfield for 11 years before the internals crapped out on it. But optically it was always top-notch for something in that price range. Those older Japanese ones were darn good but today I have no knowledge about the current Tasco product line and would rather just purchase something like a Leupold or another brand in that range even if it meant postponing the purchase until I saved up the extra money.

The Euro-class was one of Tasco's more expensive models.
I'm guessing they were made from the late 1980s until mid 1990s. Might be a good scope.

Where was it made?

There are stickers that read " inspected by Asia Optical-Japan".
I feel comfortable saying the scope and rifle were purchased or assembled as a package hunting rifle. Any idea of what "more expensive" might have meant in that time frame vs say Leupold?
No doubt a 30mm tube.

I'm guessing it was priced like a low-mid Leupold.

Great scopes, the Tasco name sorta muffed their marketing attempt to challenge the Alpha Euro's. The quality was there, the name was the problem.

Seems the original price point was in the $600 range and people weren't gonna pay that much for a TASCO! You see one occasionally on Ebay in the $200 range.

I have the 3-12x52 Tasco Titan, which is the same scope. These were made by a top Japanese optical house. I actually have two, one on a 7RM M-70 I gave my son.

I bought a 1.5-6 Euro Class when they were closed out. I paid $100 for it NIB. Today it is sitting on my .30-06 and is used as a dark woods rifle. The scope will stay there. It is one of the better values I have seen. Appears to be made by Hakko.

They made those back in the 90's.
It was one of, if not the best of the Tasco scopes.
Made in Japan ; used to see them priced in the 500-600 dollar range, but they didn't sell due to the Tasco name as mentioned by Dirtfarmer.
They are a good solid scope. I bought a 3-12x52 when they started clearing them out in the late 90's new in box for $125 + shipping and put it on a 243 win. mostly used for coyotes.
It's still on the gun and never had any problems with it.
I'd say just give it a chance and you may be surprised ; I've had Leupolds I liked less............

Good post, PaleRider. I was afraid I was off on their roll out retail, relying on memory. You validate my recollection.

I think those scopes are sleepers, much more quality than the current prices reflect.

They are 30mm, sorta big and heavy. But great quality, much more that one would expect.

I'd say try it, give it a chance.

Yea, it's big and heavy for sure. Seems to overwhelm the purpose of a "lightweight" rifle but I'll give it more than a chance once the white stuff melts. Should be a good coyote/pronghorn rifle. Thanks for the education guys.

Yeah, not a great LW rifle scope.

For a varmint or std wt hunting rig, lots of glass for what it costs.

My son likes his on a M-70 7RM deer rifle. It's put meat in his freezer.

They are very clear, track well and are really tough.

About as much glass as you'll find for $200.

Mounted a Euro Class on a 376 Styer, it lasted 3 rounds before the crosshair broke. Great glass, durability not so much so

Bought one about a year ago and great glass and crystal clear. Mounted on a XL7 25-06.

I put a new Vortex 2-7 on a 257 Roberts and got 3 shots off before the horizontal was hanging sort of strangely........

I had a Japanese-made Tasco 3-9X40 World Class that withstood a couple hundred rounds of .300 WinMag, and was still working great when I replaced it.

I put a Chinese made one(?) on a Remington 700 BDL, in the scope-shattering .308 Winchester cartridge.

Within 20 rounds, the cross-hair broke on the right side and drooped. The dealer replaced it. Within 20 rounds, the Ocular lense on the replacement had turned sideways and was protruding out of the scope....

I had also owned a Japanese-made 4-16X44 that was very reliable, I kinda wished I'd have held onto that one, but I let it go on an AR set up for varminting.

After I learned that Tasco had moved their production to China, I went in another direction with scopes. Their move also coincided with an increase in disposable income that allowed better scopes, anyway.

I had that happen with three, count them, three Burris Signature 8-32X on a Savage .223. I don't do Burris anymore.

You need to get away from such a punishing round, too....

China Euro Scope - NOT OK
China World Class - NOT OK

Have a reliable 24x44mm AO 1/8moa Target dot scope with the silver pronghorn, Japan, rumored to have been made by LOW. Have a couple Japan made 4x Tascos that seem just fine but only get transient use.

Not a fan boy but this is an example of relative meaningless of brand names used by non-manufactures. My view is that CF learned how to get what he wanted manufactured via his experience with the Euro Class. Maybe not - but luckily now we have the SS and him to thank.

FOR SALE: 3-9x44 Euro Class 30mm has several (5-7) speckles on the inside, not much noticeable in use and they don't move around. $75 TYD

6x44 WCPlus is a good scope too

Had three presumably Chinese World Class's in the very late 90's; the reason I had 3 is, the first two physically came apart on my '06. They replaced them OTC. I put the third one on an air rifle and that's where it sits now.

Went with a Burris after that, which I ended up not liking. Then on to Leupold. Then on to... it's a journey with optics for sure.

I have a world class TV view that was made in Taiwan I think. Its been on my 760 pump 308 since 93. Took a spike coues at 517 yards 10 years or so ago at last light. it did the trick and have had no thoughts of replacing it.
My dad runs an old 6-24x42AO or something of the sort on his 270. I don't like it one bit but he does. I try replacing it with a Vortex and he yells at me to leave his rifle alone. lol
I've since become a fan of Vortex, I know there are better optics out there, but their warranty is top notch and the people over there have been awesome to me. But an oldie but goodie Tasco is hard to pass up for the right price if I had another light recoil rifle to put one on that I don't plan on shooting long range.

If anyone has the urge for one,I have a NIB 3x12 Titan I picked up a year ago and it's still on the shelf.I have another 3x12,a 1.75x6 and a 4x Titan,all 30mm, on rifles and they seem to be great.I paid 210.00 shipped for the new one and will sell for the same.

Well,I have come to the conclusion that I just can't warm-up to the 30mm tube and the 52mm objective bell and I think it would be happier with a new forever home. I was about to post in the classifieds but I don't have a clue what's a fair price. Any help would be appreciated. Leupold type rings. Photos available.

These were made after the sale of the brand and were NOT the same scope as the original Euro Class which is amazingly tough and solid for the original money. I still use several Euro/Titans and have zero complaints. Can't say the same for Zeiss, Nikon, Pentax +.
