Actually I will be making something similar, but not using corned beef, but rather using a brined picnic ham (shoulder) which is similar in taste to a bacon joint which was what was originally used for the traditional boiled dinner, along with carrots, parsnips and cabbage. Though most add the potatoes to the "boil", I prefer to serve "Champ" alongside the meat and vegetables. Irish soda bread will served too.

You damn guineas, it's Paddy, not Patty. Patty is a chick's name.

I'm cooking it tomorrow, making Shepard's pie (ground lamb) today. Made 2 loafs of Irish Soda Bread yesterday. Everything is headed to our neighborhood bar for a St. Paddy's Day party.

St Patrick was not actually Irish. His exact birthplace and date is not known. However it is believed he was born around 375AD in Scotland. His parents were Calpurnius and Conchessa, were Romans

That would qualify him as a guinea

St Patrick wasn't Irish - and neither is corned beef and cabbage. The dish was invented right here in New York City - by Irish immigrants, admittedly, but it was unknown in Ireland until then. And largely still is, btw.

Looks great! We add extra Shillings Pickling Spices to our corned beef. Some people also add tomatoes, but we dont.

Made it last Sunday for supper. Had it as carry out today from Pat & Mike's Pub next to my office and having reuben sandwiches with Sundays leftovers for supper tonight. I can't get enough of the stuff!

Yeah, but when ironbender makes bread, he loafs.

I myself am no miracle worker, but I can loaf and fish.
