Drew a bull tag for the breaks in Garfield county. Hope I have the time to really get after it this Fall.

Might end up relocating further away than I am now, ~160 miles, so it might be a bit tough but am looking forward to it.

Now have to put in for some cow tags so the rest of the crew can come along and shoot a cow/s.

John,

Not for me in 380, or Eileen either....

No Elk, but heading to the Breaks for Mule Deer, and a week with Dad. No complaints.

I finally drew! Yikes. Mixed feelings I guess. I drew area 690. I have a lot of homework to do now! I certainly will listen to anyone with knowledge of the area and landowners!

I know a little, and a few folks, but the primary landowner that I knew sold his place this winter.

I will be up there to scout during May, and hope to meet with some landowners then. I do know that Chris Faber leases much of the area's good properties.

I drew the Rifle permit. I have seen elk on private lands near the reservation boundary, but have not spent a lot of time in the Cow Creek area.

I will be spending a few days next month looking into access, and scouting ownership.

One landowner that used to let us hunt antelope has since leased to Chris Faber, and the other recently sold his place.

I hope to be able to make a go of this with two or three trips from Missoula, so I guess we will see.

Don't worry so much about the number printed on your permit. You can just go to 380 and shoot a big bull and tag him with that 690. I have been doing it for years with great success. Even on a year without a permit, you can just send the money in when you get your elk, but you do want to send cash when you do that...

Pretty much! But for another $10,000.00 you can buy it back at auction, still have a nice trophy and be cheaper than an African Elephant...

It sure is good to see that shrapnel hasn't changed a bit in 20 years! Always thinking - one step ahead of the crowd. Rules, are for other people to break.... Limited draws are for chumps, right?

Maybe I'll hunt with a 26" barrel 45-70 just for kicks! I'd have to make a small travois to drag it behind me.

I have to keep my regulations close at hand, as I am too broke to pay the fines, and I hear the only jail in the area with any room is the Women's prison. ;-) That'd be worse than a trip to Joanne Fabric with the wife!

I wouldn't be surprised to see your son with a deer bigger than any elk logcutter may shoot... laugh
