I have a post 64 model 70 that got turned into a 338 mag. I like the looks of the Talley's and have been offered a set in a trade deal. They are highs. The scope is an older Leupold vari x 11 3-9x40. Ideally I think mediums would work well but like I said these are highs. What is the height difference? The stock on it now has a raised comb and I will be restocking it at some point with a Monte Carlo stock. Will the highs be too high? Thanks, Don

Well.... can't speak to the comb of the stock, but just in terms of clearing a 40mm objective LOW's will do that (and then some).
The CENTER will hold.

Yes, the highs will be too high.
Talleys run higher than others to begin with. For example, I have a 56mm objective Meopta in mediums and there's still room for scope covers to fit.
They're pretty cheap, just buy some lows.

Heck, for that scope, lows will work fine. I'd get the right ones.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

Lows are your huckleberry...oops, I see 3 other people already told you the same thing..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
