Saw a demo, heard the spiel. Barring a mandate from POTUS, would you buy one if it was just another option? I've re-posted the Obama story. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...-tech-despite-concerns.html?intcmp=hpbt1

Is the president's secret service detail using smart technology weapons? When they are, I'll look into it.

Only if its an Etronix 700 I'm surprised this idea hasn't made a comeback. Electronic costs have plummeted and a microswitch for the trigger would allow for some really innovative designs like a bullpup hunting rifle.

I haven't even bought a S&W revolver since they added the internal lock. It adds nothing to the functionality of the firearm. Same with any smart gun technology.
So, NO!

I will own a gun. Just happens I have plenty and if the smart tech was all that was for sale then No. If I was 18 and new to guns and all I could buy is a smart gun then I still want a gun so yes or see if I could find a black market gun. https://smarttechfoundation.org/smart-firearms-technology/jonathan-mossberg/Well Walt guess you need to get rid of all your Mossberg products.

If the technology became reliable enough that I wouldn't have any qualms about betting my life on it, then maybe, depending on how I liked the actual gun itself. Until then, no.

And I would bet serious money that smart gun technology will jack up the cost of that gun a LOT. Thereby acting to depress gun sales. See how it works? Anything to make it harder, more expensive, more red tape, etc. etc.... But of course they only want "common sense", "reasonable" gun control measures. That means making gun ownership out of reach of the average, law abiding citizen; but not the elite ruling class.

The fingerprint unlock on my iPhone doesn't work half the time. No way I'd depend on that technology for my life.
Obama thinks he's being creative but Slick Willie already tried this with S&W and it didn't turn out. I would be surprised if any manufacturer was willing to go along with it.

NO! The fingerprint unlock on my iPhone doesn't work half the time. No way I'd depend on that technology for my life. That right there. Wet fingers, cold fingers, dirty fingers; 'smart' stuff is failure prone and unreliable. No. I don't even like safeties. I very rarely use a safety!

If the technology became reliable enough that I wouldn't have any qualms about betting my life on it, then maybe, depending on how I liked the actual gun itself. Until then, no. In your dreams. The neat thing about simple mechanical devices is that you can generally tell if they will work reliably by looking at them. Electronics.....not so much. Not just no.....

It has nothing at all to do with safety concerns. The idea that there's a safety problem with guns that the Federal Government needs to address is a PSYOP designed to set us up for ever increasing legislative measures at the Federal level to hamstring, and eventually eliminate, civilian gun ownership in the US per United Nations directives.

once we do this, then when they are ready, they will just turn all the guns "off"
try that with the guns I lost in a boating accident. LOL. Especially my MZ's where I can make powder, and bullets and use flints to ignite.....

Wouldn't this technology render moot the concept of 'battlefield pickups' when the SHTF? No thanks, it's a nefarious solution in search of a problem.

You guys don't really think the .gov would do anything unconstitutional with the ability to "turn off" a gun, do you? <SARCASM> www.apple.com/customer-letterAny gun maker that endorses or utilizes this technology should be boycotted, IMHO.

Actually yes. Especially for those semi trained Moms who's toddlers are shooting them.
Technology always improves so I don't worry about that.
I have a wonderful collection of 18th, 19th and 20th century firearms technology and I enjoy shooting them all.
I am ready for some 21st century technology that may be more accurate, more efficient, more cost effective and yes, safer.
So many of you always look back. I try to look towards the future.

Enjoy your flintlock. If you are on here "they" know who you are and where you live, and probably what you have. Whatever, but none of them have remote controlled off switches. Remote, directed, jamming of electronics is current technology.

Remote, directed, jamming of electronics is current technology. Maybe you missed my point. I don't have any smart guns. My "flintlocks" don't have remote controls.

Only a genius could think of building in another potential failure point. Ask anyone who has worked in a gunstore how often folks come in w/ locked guns, primarily Smiths and Tauri, w/out their key.

Maybe. Probably be collectible a year or two after introduction. Yeah, like that sweet Remington Etronix...

did you really have to ask? More money for a less reliable gun, and probably you cannot even shoot with your off hand, or teach the grandkids how to shoot.

Heck no I wouldnt want one. Next they will want a gps in them so they can tract the gun or see if it was in the area of a crime scene. Maybe hook them up to the internet so they can shut it down if they decide your a danger.

No. I wouldn't buy a 700 with a J lock. Why would I?
