Well, pulled the trigger on my application for a Michigan Black Bear hunt this Fall. With 10 points, drawing should be a given. Going to be a bait hunt so I've decided the Ruger No. 1S-C in .45-70 will accompany me, along with a S&W 625 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt. Figure a 405 soft point should do the job......

Would think you are well prepared in all regards! How's your Ruger scoped?

Good Luck on your Hunt I took a 450lb Black Bear with a win. 86 and rem. 405 at about 40yrds, one shot all it took! Hope your not hopeing for the Baldwin unit, if so your about 4-6 points short!
Deer Camp! about as good as it gets!

Sounds like a good outfit to use on a bear.....I do have an original Winchester 1873 .44-40, but that will stay in the safe instead going on this hunt.
No, not the Baldwin unit, that would take 14 points, but for Amasa I should have no problem drawing with 10 points. Took 6-7 last year for that hunt......so should be good.

Best of luck! I enjoy a bear hunt, and regularly use my Number One. Enjoy!

Single shot will work! My pard on this same hunt took a 7'3" black bear with his Ruger #1 in 45-70

Amasa is a good area. Are you doing the hunt yourself or is it a guided hunt? I wish you luck in the draw.

To borrow an old phrase, the .45-70 is seldom a mistake.

Are you going guided or DIY?
Amasa is a great area. Good luck on the draw, and the hunt
Have 9 points myself, but couldn't resist the great Canadian exchange rate right now so heading north of Soo this year and put in for another Point.
I'm using single shot Encore in 308
