So my ancient Motor Guide trolling motor is about done. I figure I'm in this boat for this year and then hope to upgrade next year. I'm looking on Wal-Mart's web site and they list Ozark Trail trolling motors. Ozark Trail is their store brand. Does anyone have any idea who they have making these for them? Can't tell by the looks of it's a Minn Kota or ???????

can you send a pic? I'll be able to tell you probably.

I'll try to look it up as well.

I'm a big Minnkota fan. From entry level to top of the line, they've served me well.

That sure looks like the motorguide from last years model. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. $20 cheaper than the comparable minnkota.

Nada-and thanks for the input on the trolling motor. They've got a 44 lbs. thrust with a 36" shaft and an extra propellar for $100.00 if I remember right, and I get a 10% associate discount and free shipping to the store.

Tru dat! Went late season duck hunting. Thought I'd break the shelf ice with the boat on the trailer backing down the ramp. Worked like a charm. Took my trailer lights with it. I rewired some new ones, exactly like the new ones and according to the diagram. Haven't been the same since. I think they're possessed.

On a good day I get any combination of more than two lights to work. Good days don't happen very often.....

gopher, you need to switch to led taillights.
I had the same problems as you, lights works on trip to the lake, return trip they don't.Half the time ,its the bulb connections are oxidized, you pull the lense off ,touch the bulb, and it works....for awhile.
since I switched to the led fixtures, just plug them in,and they work.
just have to keep the vehicle to trailer plug clean now , a job unto itself.

If I end up rewiring the trailer again before selling the boat, I'll go LED.

Tom,I read here most every day and as Dave said I am on Facebook.
Just an update,I quit working almost full time at the gun shop after 10-1/2 years. I do go in one afternoon a week for four hours to keep in the loop,so to speak, so that that I can fill in for vacations.
Feels great.Getting mucho reloading done and planning a pig/coyote hunt in a week or so down south of here.
Also getting a much neglected yard back in shape.
Thank you for thinking of me.

Well for once this old fart caught a little break. My trolling motor crapped out on me last Saturday while out on the lake. I was thinking about just replacing it any ways. It's an old Motor Guide with a lot of hard use behind it. Decided I'd take a look at it in case it was something simple. Took the handle apart and sure enough, the on/off switch was stuck, and shot. I went to the hardware store, bought a simple on/off button switch, wired it up, and she came back to life. I guess I don't have to buy a motor after all!

Special thanks to Dave for this little corner of the 'Fire so many of us have called home for quite some time now. As we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, I hope we all recognize that this is about more than brats and BBQ. My deepest thanks to Dave, and all our other members who felt the call to serve. I can't imagine there's any of us on here who don't have someone in their lives, or themselves, who served their country. My deepest thanks to those who served. To those who lost a loved one in combat, or in service, know that there are others who share your grief. I hope everyone has a good weekend, and takes time to remember.

'Got off work early today. I came home and Cathy's daycare kids were screaming like banshees. Good excuse to go fishing. The sunnies are moving in to spawn. I went to some friends of ours who live on Prior Lake and between me and my daughter, we caught 26. All big males. Fish fry tomorrow night!

My boy caught his first walleye tonight, it was a 14.75 we had to throw back (15" minimum), but this one was a doozie!
[Linked Image]

he also caught his biggest crappie yet, didn't measure or weight it (probably should have)

all in all it was a great father/son fishing excursion!
headed back tomorrow morning for some more *fingers crossed
