Is there enough barrel in a 30-06 Mark x to drill out to 9.3x62?

To me, it sure doesn't look like it at the full 24". There's a fair amount of taper out there. I can make measurements right now. How much is needed?

From a '75 30-06 Interarms Mark X, Zastava Yugo, which by the way would be a fine 30-06 as is. LOL

Let me know if there's anything else, it's just sitting here.

.552-.308=.244, .366+.244=0.61" So maybe 20" is doable? Or not?

24" .552"
22" .582"
20" .615"
18" .650"

Yes. JES did a rebore of a Mark X from 30-06 to 9.3x62 for me a couple of years ago. As I recall the math on mine worked out to a shade over .090" on either side of the bore when finished. (I did not shorten the barrel).

Jes got back to me and said YES, just on the verge of being too skinny but happy to do it. One consideration is if the front sight is screwed on, the depth of the screws may require shortening to overcome. Oh, definitely a screw showing on mine, may be looking at 21". Thanks WiFowler, I'd thought it was a definite no-go.

Finally got into this a little further.

On my 30-06 the depth of the forward front-sight screw hole is .085" at .555" barrel dia.
