Most of the time on the 'Fire there are great posts and pics shared of game taken with rifles that have been tinkered with from one end to the other. It's the rifle loony's curse. Anyone want to post some pics of game taken with rifles that are untinkered with from the factory, other than adjustments made to a factory trigger? I'll start.

I'll also add, that I doubt the rifle came from the factory with that scope and rings attached.

Good point but that factory Hornady .275 Rigby wasn't going to be very useful without them. smile

I live their old Savage with the tang sight, by the way.

I've posted it before, but...

[Linked Image]

M1907, .351 Winchester. Unknown if the tang sight is factory, but I'm guessing it was.

there is also...

[Linked Image]

A bone stock #1 .270. I've done nothing to it besides mount the scope. The 2nd load I tried in it easily shot sub-MOA, and is fast, so it gets the nod for deer.

From what I understand, those Icons were accurate rifles.

Nice wabbits, by the way.

Dad with two does whacked with a SIG SHR 970 .270 that is a stock factory rifle. He even used factory ammo on these two: federal Premium wit the 130 grain Sierra BTSP.

Dad with a spike buck killed with the same rifle/load and day as the others:

I almost bought one in 7-08 but then thought nah.

That was really dumb.

They shelved the whole Icon idea because they didn't sell....too heavy and wayyy too expensive. Only reason I bought mine is I liked the feel...it was on clearance for half price $399 and there was a $150 rebate on top of that! grin

It IS heavy though at 9.25 lbs all up. But I'm old now and hardly ever carry it anyplace but to the blind! laugh

Me too.

But just two of them. One is still in the box and has not been fired since purchased 7-8 years ago.

I don't know folks that think that, but I've never seen making a rifle to meet your specs as a bad thing.

Remington 721 30-06 made in 1959.....is amazingly accurate and smooth. Other than the butt pad it's pure factory. Great gun.

When I think stock, I consider the gun as it was marketed and that would be sans scope...

Mornin' Shrap,

I hear what you are sayin’, but if I were to go back and add irons to these stock factory rifles, then they would no longer be “stock” IMHO.

And last but not least, a pix I found from circa 1990 that I scanned in. I had been calling in crows and one lit on a limb about 175 yds. down the easement I was set up on. I winged him and he dropped. While he was laying there flapping, this coyote happened to run out of the brush and grabbed the bird. So I nailed him also. Been so long ago I don’t remember the exact model of the rifle. Laminated Varmint Synthetic or something to that effect.

If it's factory drilled for scope mount, then it's still factory with a scope.

Plenty of cars came out with 5 lugs, but once you put on aluminum wheels, it is no longer stock. Screw holes aren't scopes, Lyman 42 peep sights did come on Model 70's so that is considered "stock"...

How do you shoot a factory rifle that has no iron sights installed from the factory?

If I add iron sights, it ain't factory. My Ruger 77 came with RINGS and NO SIGHTS.

IIRC, the OP featured a pix of a scoped rifle as the first pix in the opening post. Consequently, pix of scoped “ factory rifles sans “irons” would seem appropriate.

A few more unadulterated “factory” rifles with scope only alterations. Not a trigger job among em’.

However, in full disclosure, not one have had a "factory" round down the tube since I've owned them. Can't tell if the ones I purchased pre-enjoyed were used to commit adultery before they followed me home. But that's a minor sin that can be forgiven.

For Pete's sake. Let's not suck the fun out of the thread entirely. I was just interested to see what folks have done with rifles that haven't been blue-printed, stocks changed, barrels swapped, etc. Yes, a rifle without sights needs iron or glass. Shrap, God bless your eyes. I can't read the newspaper without glasses much less see iron. If we carry a rifle much it will need a sling or strap. But I don't think adding a scope or sling is quite the same as having the entire rig so reworked that the only thing left that's original is the firing pin.

"An archer sees how far he can be from a target and still hit it, a bowhunter sees how close he can get before he shoots." It is certainly easy to use that same line of thinking with firearms. -- Unknown
