What do you do when you have a few boxes of ammo for a rifle/cartridge you've never owned? You buy a rifle at the local shop for it. Ain't seen one of these in a long time, couldn't resist. Aperture or scope, I'm leaning aperture.

If it's drilled and tapped already, the XS ghost ring rear sights are pretty nice. I've got them on a few Marlins.

Red Dot, then bring it for a walk in the lignum on muddy boars. Ultimate combo.

Great find. I would scope it with a Leupold 2.5X, or Leupold 3X, or a Weaver V3. I used the 7-30 Waters in a Contender Carbine and really like it.

Happy birthday, Poobs.
Oh, my vote is Leupold 2.5x.
BTW, I have a partial box of the old Nosler 120 grain FP's for that rifle if you want them.

I have the original 24" rifle version and it wears one of the '80s vintage Redfield 5 Star 2-7x20 straight tube Compacts. The Waters has enough reach to justify some glass, if you're so inclined.

I put a like-new one on hold about 10 years ago, but let it go after investigating the ammo, and especially the bullet situation; more fun than I wanted to get into at that time. I've regretted it ever since, as it was almost perfect and just a nice little carbine. If nothing else, it would have made a dandy .25/35. Last time I checked, EABCO made brass for it from .30/30 brass, presumeably hydraulically The Williams WDOS open sight slips into the rear dovetail and accepts aperatures similar to the Skinner, including one with F.O. dots at 3 & 6 o'clock, and is much cheaper. The Sknners are very nice, however. I was skeptical about barrel-mounted peeps, but get a great sight picture from the one on my Low Wall .44. Peeps are very handy and fun, but low-power scopes make hitting stuff in the woods easier for those of us with old-man eyes. QD rings on Weaver-style bases give you both relatively painlessly.

Other than duck boot, I don't know what I'm looking at.

Since NO one, including XS, has the sights in stock for the 94 I went with a Burris Fastfire III.
I've wanted one and I can always use it on another rifle when I can get the XS.

Fast v. Precise: I just received an XS Big Dot .500 front sight from Brownell's for my pre-AE Trapper .30/30. Gonna try it first w original rear then see how it works w the Marble Arms Bullseye short sight I got for my 10/22 SBR. The Uber Micro Blaster is hitting too high with the Marble sight. Determined to waylay a WT w a .30/30 lever this year. Found a 336 I never knew Dad bought in the house. Got some rust on it, but doubt it's ever been shot. Gonna drop an M8 2.5 or 4x on it for shots more than 50 yards away That 7/30 Waters should stack deer and hogs like cordwood with that Fastfire in your AO, Steelhead.

It's a shot looking over the breech of my .44. Just behind the toe are the two green fiber dots on the barrel peep. Between them is the orange painted brass bead.
Sorry it's not clearer, but I already had it in my bucket.
The Fastfire is a good choice too.
