this sounds interesting but am not sure I have ever heard of it? Wonder if it effects how the bullet performs on game.

What is the Hi-Tek coating and how is it applied?
The coating is made in Australia and imported here. The coating itself consists of a catalyst which binds a polymeric colorant agent with acetone which is then applied in bulk to raw bullets and baked onto the bullets' surface at nearly 400 degrees. The coating is a polymer (bonded with metal) and forms an extremely tough new surface for the bullet. The application of the coating is repeated for an additional coat. The bullets are then sized normally but not lubricated, as the coating itself acts as bullet lube. Nominal bullet diameter is not affected.

Leading of the bore is dramatically reduced, as is lube smoke. Long shooting sessions do not have to be interrupted by bore cleaning.

Higher velocities can be attained with coated bullets.

Health benefits for the reloader, as there is no touching of bare lead.

Reduced force required to seat and crimp because the bullets are slippery.

In summary, Hi-Tek coated bullets offer the advantages associated with plated bullets without the expense.

I just started "using" these in my .480 Ruger, but haven't killed anything with them yet. Don't see how there could be any problem.

Anyone remember those NyClad bullets S&W sold starting in the 80's?

Pretty much the same principle.

Yep, similar concept to NyClad and the powder coating many of us are doing now.

It doesn't affect the bullet's performance on impact at all. It's just a thin polymer coating a couple thousandths thick.

I just started using MBC's Hi-Tech bullets in 9MM and 45 acp and they do what they say they'll do.

I've used Bayou Bullets 240 SWC for years in my 44's with excellent results.

When I buy from Missouri Bullet Co., I just drive up there. They're a top-notch outfit that I've recommended for years. I haven't tried their coated bullets, but am thinking about a drive up there for some 38 WCF's. I'll get the coated bullets if they're available in that caliber.

i have cast some bullets, and sprayed with a hi tech spray paint associated with hi temp engine blocks. Worked just fine, very clean barrel, no smoke, all that good stuff.
I am a devotee now of powdercoating which while not new, is just becoming more and more in common view. Love the stuff.
Clean barrel, probably added velocity, and not messy to deal with.
I like it so much just ordered a set of 9mm molds from the slovenian with no gas groove intended for powdercoating.

I bought some of the Hi-Tec coated um Missouri Bullet Co. They are 255gr SWC for the 45 Colt. So far I like them. No fuss, and shoot very clean.

Are you loading those to standard pressure? If so, do you have a load suggestion that creates enough pressure to prevent the sooty cases? I've been looking at MBC because they offer the option of a softer bullet for the low pressure loads.

I'm pretty new to the 45 Colt. I'm loading these with 9.0 gr Unique, about 900 fps.

I don't think it's very high pressure, the standard 45 Colt load in my Speer manual goes up to 9.5 gr Unique with a 250 gr lead, that's for the 14K psi.

There's a little soot, but not that bad.

I'm shooting them out of a Ruger Blackhawk.

Thanks for the info. I'm new to the standard pressure loads in 45 Colt and have been working my way through different powders trying to find one that is a little cleaner. I've got some Unique on hand and will try that next.

I bought 500 of the 44 240 grain LSWC's with the hi tec coating, will see what happens. I don't see any downside to less mess and less smoke and less leading.

As far as the bullets go, I have been shooting MBC lead for several years. I actually have bought enough stock during the great silliness that they lasted several years. Here in the dry mountains, lead is not too smoky. When I go to the midwest and shoot, the lead bullets get so smoky in the humidity that I can barely see the target. So far I have been playing with the coated bullets and plated also. The coated bullets work just as well as the MBC lead bullets with less smoke.

Supposedly they can be loaded faster, it took me .5 gr more to equal uncoated bullets. Kind of like moly needs more powder.

I loaded 24 up with 9.7 grains of Unique hope to shoot them tomorrow, just to see what is going on with them.

Son and I just got back from a nice a/c indoor range where we burned 200 rounds of 357 mag 158 RNFP hi tec bullets. Shot in 2 Smiths and a Marlin 1894, no smoke and easy peasy clean up. They're keepers.
