From what I understand, the lower court decision the split left in place didn't do anything other than preserve the status quo.

Much like their (scotus) refusal to hear challenges to assault weapons bans by certain states. Kicking the can down the road. Which ain't all bad.

Exactly. The fact that this was a tie vote is pathetic. It should have been unanimous.
