I never took it apart, the previous owner really like it so I didn't want to make him think I thought something was wrong (but maybe he already thought that). I also questioned the front sight. He was more of a collector of early Steven's firearms and was quite knowledgeable on them, his interest in Savage came later and he was still learning. I was at the auction Friday & tried to get his catalog collection, what was it, estimate $400 to $800 & I didn't get them @ $2500 (+15%) and now think I should have tried.

I was lookimg at the front sight. It as lost looks lie someone installed a large blade in the original split post.
