Back in 1966 I bought a used mod 29 .44mag from a local cop for $125.00. The 29's were hard to get back in those days with about a two year wait as I recall. I shot the heck out of that gun for a couple years and then sold it along with a mod 27 and bought a new Colt Python (another gun I should have kept) Yesterday a buddy sold me his .44mag Mountain Gun and I'm tickled pink. A new gun even makes old men happy.

A little bit off track here, but were the earliest MG's round butt or square butt grip frame? I would trade or sell a lot for a square butt Mountain Gun in 44 or 45.
If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.

Back in the day I liked the long barreled guns but lately I've been liking short barrels. Do we get smarter as we get older or just think different.

I think this is caused by the same insolent dwarves that run ahead of us with shovels to make the hills steeper and taller every climb.

Thank's Dave. I wish I had a picture of the Smiths I had 50 years ago. I still have my K-38 and K-22, they've aged better than I have.

good deal, its been 30 years since my last MDL 29, but I did have a black hawk in 44 mag about 10 years ago briefly, I forget, oddly enough I still had a set of Lee dies, and double oddly was able to buy 2 pounds of Unique.
Let us know how it shoots.

You know sean, if I had a friend like that and I was pretty sharp about finances. I'd call that friends boss and explain to him in financial terms how they could probably pay for new Glocks by trading in their Sigs

The only .44 Magnum I have left is a 629-5 Mountain Gun...
If you can find some, try the Speer .44 Magnum 200 grain Gold Dot HP Short Barrel Load...1080 fps from a 4" barrel. Very mild recoil and a real deep HP that expands every time...

Let us know how it shoots. Didn't get to the range yet so I set this up at 30-40' in the back yard and fired one SWEET shot, Rem, 240gr simi-jack hp Probably just luck. More recoil than I expected.
