Heard today that Hornady, following the SAAMI acceptance of the 6.5-300 Wby will be starting to manufacture ammo. No timeline was provided on availability.

Also, Hornady, in conjunction with Ruger will be announcing a new cartridge called the 6.5 Precision. Ruger will be chambering the rifles. Specs on the new cartridge and which Ruger rifle(s) will be available in the chambering is at this point unknown.

Doubt this one gets much traction. Just too late to a party. Both the short action and long action 6.5s have become a pretty crowded field as of late. It would have to be pretty revolutionary at this point but I am envisioning a repeat of the RCM fiasco. The 6.5 Creed is going to be a tough act to follow right now (assuming its a SA cartridge).

I have to agree. 6.5 Creed has a 'strangle-hold' on the the 6.5 S/A market. 6.5 L/A market might be a different story, but 26 Nosler seems to be the leader and it'll take a lot to out distance the field.

IMHO, the worst part of it (the new 6.5 cartridge) is the fact that Ruger is building the gun. As it stands right now, Ruger can't keep up. They have stopped taking orders for the 'original' RPR - period; will not be taking any more orders this year for the 'enhanced' RPR or base LCP. There are a few other Ruger guns that should be labeled 'wishful thinking' as well. In this neck of the woods, anything 6.5 sells about as fast as it comes in the door.

Now that would make things interestingoing (and i didn't even think of that being the possibility). It already has a good following so has some potential to sell moderately well--at least until all the loonies have bought theirs.

I always thought the RCM case was a better design personally only because it didn't have a rebated rim (personal opinion only)...it wouldn't surprise me to see Ruger use their case instead of the SAUM.

I would really like to see them do the SAUM though just to see what the true pressure tested velocities come out to be. I have always been amazed that the 6.5 SAUM crowd touted velocities faster than the .264WM while using less powder and seeing "no pressure signs." I expect it would be a repeat of the 7mm STW--blistering as a wildcat and only mildly impressive at 65KPSI.

Yet, they still won't touch the WSMs. Not that I really care but I still have customers crowing for it...

What's the water capacity to the top of the mouth in a WSM?

Don't see anything wrong with that. The WSM's are fine cartridges. I'm sure you agree.

However, the new Wby chambering will be available in the MK V. There's a lot of "crows" for them as well.

6.5 RCM? Could be.

On the other hand, the RCMs (300 and 338) haven't set the world on fire.

The Hornady 6.5 Precision might just be a rebranded 6.5 4S, nothing more than a 6.5 SAUM...... nothing to be impressed about, the 6.5 WSM is still King

Just me but the beauty of a really efficient bullet like the 6.5/.264 139 Scenar or 7/.284 162 AM is that it'll go straight & true at the moderate velocities (and recoil/BLAST) of a 6.5 CM or 7-08 and in a handy platform like a Kimber 84M.

A 6.5-300 Weatherby on a monsterous MK V action spoils the whole deal for me personally. The blast, even from a 26" barrel, has got to be (literally?) mind blowing! Not even God could keep from developing a flinch from something like that.

$10 says that it'll be just like the RUMs were; all the guys who think you can get around practice with technology (this is NOT meant to diss anyone here) will go out and get one, top it w/ a Hubel space telescope, shoot it (MAYBE??) 20x, find it doesn't make UBBER range shooting a cinch, and sell it. Within a couple years the used racks will all have em and they won't move from there.

Again, just my $.02.

PS- Horn legitimizing the 6.5 GAP (SAUM) would be da bomb & make a lot of sense IMHO.

I would have some serious interest in that one.

As for the 6.5-300 Wby I would have liked a 6.5 off of the 257/270 Wby case a lot more. I do wish Weatherby success with their 6.5-300 though.

Any one have an idea why Weatherby made the 6.5/300? If you going for over kill, why not a 6.5-378. If you over bore you might as well be at maximum over bore.

If I were to guess, I'd say Weatherby was in the "Keep up with the Jones' mode". In other words they legitimized the 6.5x300 Wby by getting SAAMI acceptance so they had something to compete with in the 6.5 market and possibly give the 26 Nosler a run for its money. JMHO.
