Just took my No. 1 in .257 Weatherby out. Really impressed with the velocity and accuracy was good with every four shot group under 1". The 28" barrel must help because it was getting 3750 fps over an Oehler with 100-grain factory loads.

sounds terrific, I've been curious how they shoot. Been wanting one but I've only seen a couple that had decent wood.

Not sure what Lipsey's spec'd on these, but mine has what looks like Circassion with dark streaking through the fore end and some moderate fiddle back and streaking in the butt. Really nice.
Over several groups, mine was mostly shooting around 3/4" for four shots but was double grouping so am thinking some work would get it near one hole. I am going to do a little research on No. 1 bedding tricks.
If Lipsey's is listening, one of these in .26 and .28 Nosler would be phenomenal with the 28" barrel. I would buy one of each.

I don't understand why anybody BITCHES about less than 1 inch groups out of any Ruger No1. They were designed and built to be a GREAT HUNTING rifle and thats exactly what they are.

If a Number 1 is a consistent 3/4 inch shooter in a belted case , then leave it alone. You have one of the better ones

I don't understand why anybody BITCHES about less than 1 inch groups out of any Ruger No1. They were designed and built to be a GREAT HUNTING rifle and thats exactly what they are. I am not complaining about sub 1" group but just think it will do better based on the way it is grouping and given the velocity, I am envisioning a point and click, no exposed turrets and no fancy reticle 400-500 yard coyote and deer rifle so will take all the accuracy I can get. I bought my 1B .22 Hornet from the estate of a bench rest shooter. I am not sure if he modified the bedding but I believe it to be the most accurate rifle I own. It has produced more than a few five-shot groups with all bullet holes touching. I have not had many No. 1s but don't think I have had one yet that wouldn't shoot around an inch or better. My 9.3x74 would do it with a NEGC peep sight. My .257 Roberts International shoots 1.5" with a 2.5x scope and a factory load that goes 2-2.5" in my bolt rifles. I haven't done any load work up on the Roberts so think it may do better.

Did Lipseys spec these with some sort of upgraded Walnut? The dark streaking makes me think Circassion or some sort of European wood.

Lipseys supposedly upgraded the wood on this year's editions. I still had to search quite a bit to find a .223 K1V that wasn't plain.

I just received a Lipsey's .257 wby. I would say that the wood was plain. I am still happy but that is from lowered expectation.

For those that are interested, I have put this one up for sale in the classified. Booked an Africa trip and raising a little money for some additional trophy fees.
