Friend has a 9 and 223, any info on best places to buy/order ammo for good prices?

Also, the above is just for plinking.

What ammo for both is considered better grade for more serious work? I know a JHP is likely best in the 9.

Thanks.

For accurate 223 in an AR, watch for a good deal on American Eagle 50gr Varmint Tip. Shoots around .75" @ 100 in every 7-9 twist AR that I have tried. It can usually be found on sale somewhere for around $.40-$.45 per round.

My experience with any FMJ rounds is 1.5" - 2.5" @ 100. If that's good enough for your plinking it can be found for around $.30 per round at many online vendors. Just watch shipping charges.

When looking for ammo deals I search ammoseek.com or SlickGuns.

My 9mm defensive load is Speer Gold Dot, 124gr. +P.

I would go heavier than 50 grains for a .223 defensive load.
69 grain Gold Dot or 77 grain SMK.

I think the 40 grain V Max would make a nasty wound.

69 smks penetrate all the way through a side by side fridge/freezer, nothing in it, at 300 yards. Just a goofy test to actually foul a barrel in the junk pile before shooting for accuracy testing..... but I was actually surpised... FWIW.

We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....
