I have a 40 S&W Shield which I bought about 3 years ago and am generally happy with except for the trigger . My question is has S&W made any recent changes to it other then removing the side safety? Is the trigger on the new ones better then what came on the older models? I would hate to have to spend almost 50% of the guns initial price on a decent trigger.

Thanks in advance

The new triggers are better.

If you want an easy fix get the Apex DCAEK.

An easier fix would be to polish the trigger bar loop, sear (where it contacts the trigger bar loop and the striker), the striker face, the striker block and where the trigger bar contacts the striker block. In about an hour and a half you can really improve the trigger.

I just did a striker block two weeks ago, you can see the before and after in this pic.

Thanks for the info. I went to a Field &Stream store yesterday and they had the S&W performance shop model for sale for 489 grin I think I paid a tad over 400 when these things first came out a few years ago. I might buy the kit and send it to Impact guns for him to install it.

If you can run a hammer, punch, feeler gauge and a q-tip with polishing compound then you can easily do the Apex kit.

It's not a difficult job at all. I went with Apex kits for my 2 full sized guns and replaced the triggers as well. Played with springs and right now have both of them at 4.5 lbs. But might go to 5.5 if I was gonna carry these 2 but either way, watch the videos and it's no big deal.

Sell it and buy a new one.

I just bought two and couldn't be happier with them. I love them. I sleep with the .40.

Ended up getting the APex Shield kit and it was a snap to install except for pounding the crap out of the rear sight. grin
