Took this blackbuck in Argentina with TGB Outfitters in 2014. Although I'm not a record book kind of hunter, he measured quite well so I entered him in SCI. He is now the #1 Estate blackbuck for South America. Here is the mount that Jerry Huffaker of Abilene, Texas did for us.

A beautiful animal and a great mount!

Wow. Very impressive.
Just curious, do you happen to know how old the animal was? And how old they typically live in the wild? Do you think his age explains why he is not as black as the other buck in your picture?
thanks

thanks Don't really know how old he was. As I understand it, blackbuck typically get darker with age but some don't. The other buck was taken free range by my wife on the same hunt and although smaller and presumably younger, was much darker.

Not an expert but Blackbuck change depending on the season. Here in Texas the mature bucks turn jet black in the winter and brown with black trim in the summer. Immature bucks stay tan year round like the doe. James

Not an expert either but Id say you are right. I see a lot more black ones in the winter months, almost none in summer.

I have a friend whose father has them.
The very oldest ones never get jet black anymore.
I was needing a cape for one I never mounted, that I shot years ago, that was a bit over 23.
They had one die, very old, and in the winter, and it was about the color of yours. I"d prefer the black, but I'll take what I can get.
Nice animal for sure!
