And really high class guys would shoot 1894s in 25-35s with pistol grips stocks, 1/2 round & 1/2 octagon barrels, and button magazines with a Lyman tang peep and a Beeches(?) style flip up/down front sight.

This is close, no pistol grip, but it is a 25-35 with half round/half octagon, tang peep, takedown...

Quality wise no.Winchester's are only close to Savage 99's when you lay them down beside one and another. Spoken like a true Savage 99 head case. GW

GW It is easy to leave the Savage when you do pick up a rifle and go hunting. I do the same thing by putting my good rifles in a soft case with a Ruger label on it, you know that no one will steal it...

In 1927 you might find a Winchester 95 in 30-40 Krag. This was my grandfathers rifle and I believe that he bought it before 1927. [img:left] [/img] Since this is the Savage forum, I bought this 99A 250 new back in the mid 70's and still own it. it's been a really great deer rifle despite being post mil.Might be a little light for moose/elk but i would use it if it was all I had. My granddad and his nine brothers all used a Remington model 8 in 35 Rem until 1936 when some bought the 81 in 300 Savage.
