I need to order a McMillan Stock very soon. I can not get my hands on one, so I will have to choose blindly and solely on input from others.

I am building a 7-08 AI with a centerfeed Savage, top bolt release action. A Bartlein #2B contour barrel. DBM or blind mag either way is okay for stock options. I will use a scope with a 44mm objective, or smaller. The rifle will be for hunting purposes.

I have small to medium size hands and short fingers.

The stocks that I am looking at are the Classic, McMillan Hunter, and the Mountain Rifle stocks.

I would like to hear any input on these stocks as far as fitting my hands and how the different stocks handle felt recoil. Thanks in advance!

A 2B Bartlein, though not huge, is not on the small side. I have one in the Hunter and like it a lot. My second choice would be the Classic.

Though I love the Mountain, I wouldn't want one on a Bartlein 2B.

WHY?

I actually am leaning more towards the Classic or the McMillan Hunter. The Bartlein #2B is suppose to be comparable to other barrel maker's #3 contour, and the Mountain Rifle stock is supposed to accept up to a #3 contour. That was the only reason that I considered the Mountain Rifle stock.

I have a hart #3 in a classic. About as perfect hunting combo as I could think of.

Don't think I've handled the hunter.

Can you guys tell me if the recoil seems to be any better or worse in the Classic or the McMillan Hunter, compared to other stocks, or compared to each other? Would you say the Classic or the McMillan Hunter are better suited for small or large hands?

The Classic & a 2B are a great fit IMHO. I have a 7MM-08 in a Classic Edge with a 2B and sure like it. Balance is great, recoil with Classics seems fine.

I guess I'd say I have average size hands and the grip on the Classic sure fits me well, especially if building a carry hunting rig. Here is a Classic Edge 7MM-08, sort of shows the grip pretty well.

I have a 2b in a McM Hunter. Perfect fit. Also have a Hart #3 in a Rem Sporter. Hunter has a thinner fore end and a thicker grip with a palm swell. Much higher comb than the Sporter. Short fingers may be a problem with the Hunter.

I really appreciate all the info. It is looking like the Classic is becoming the better option. Anymore help and advice would be appreciated!

Can any of you post up some pictures that show looking down on the barrel and forearm of the McMillan Hunter with the Bartlein 2B?

Just how much meat is left on the stock with the Bartlein 2B?

If you keep the shank of the 2b fairly short,it should be fine.
