Very nice. I sure wish Talley would streamline their bases though. They can do better than the "blocks" they currently make.

Beautiful rifle.

I want to say you suck, but that's just the jealous side of me, so I won't say it.

The wood is spectacular.

The barrel section over the chamber looks long.

Beautiful rifle. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say, close-ups please! Also, which recoil pad did you choose? It is perfectly correct on that stock (IMHO).

Actually it stands out in the photos, drawing the eye to it as if something were out of place.

With a little patina and some stock wax stuck to it, it will be perfect in about 25 years. You have to think of these things in "forever" terms.

The recoil pad is a red Decelerator pad. I've always preferred red pads on rifles for some reason. To me, a black or brown pad looks strange on a fine custom rifle. I realize that some disagree, but that's why we go the custom route, among other reasons - you can get what you want.

I'll do some more photos when I have time. I appreciate all the nice comments.

Ken,

It is a VX-3 2.5-8x36. For my use, I've found scopes in that general range are the best compromise between magnification and size/weight for my general purpose rifles. I realize that the trend in scopes these days seems to be bigger is better. Even so, I have several straight 6x scopes that I use and am perfectly satisfied with them in most applications. Since semi-retiring my old Miller .270, I find the rifle I use most for the hunting that I still do these days is a Heym SR-20 custom .280 with a McMillan composite stock. The scope I'm using on it is a Schmidt & Bender straight 6X. So far at least, I've not felt handicapped in any way.

Thanks Tsquare. Nothing wrong with a straight 6x or a lower power variable for hunting. wink

Guys,

Finally found a bit of time to take some better photos of the Goudy .300 Win Mag that I took delivery on a couple weeks back. I've still not been to the range yet, but when I do, I'll give you guys a report. In the meantime, here are a few new photos.

Again, that is a great piece of wood that you have on that stock.

A wonderful example of the gunmaker's art crafted by some of the best in the business. +1 on the red Decelerator pad, many of my rifles wear Decelerators. Leupold is my scope of choice, been using them for nearly 40 yrs. now with no problems. Most of mine are Vari-XII 2-7x though I do have a couple of fixed powers.
