A few years ago I wrote a very short, fictional elk-hunting story using plenty of words like Leupy, Winnie, etc. Supposedly I used my Fordy pickup to head up into the mountains and take a "spikey elky." Posted it here and quite a few people took it seriously, congratulating me. Apparently adding a "y" to almost any noun is considered standard English these days by many shooters.

Whenever the subject of "proper use of the English language" comes up, I first recall my Grade 9 metalwork teacher, one Mr Urgen Danz. Back in those "dark days" it was still acceptable for teachers to smoke in class - well Mr. Danz did anyway... I can still recall him berating a fellow student for using some slang term. Please picture a bespectacled man in a blue shop coat standing at the front of the class, holding his smoking cigarette in that European way with the thumb and middle finger while muttering in a VERY thick German accent. "Cheezus chentlemen, you all need a thezaurus. You have less comprehension of your language than I do and I'm a GD foreigner!" Ah the good old days of calling a digging instrument what it is, no? He was, I should add, the person who first used the term "proper nomenclature" that I'd encountered and when I'm using it teaching a Hunter Safety class it's all I can do to not throw a wee bit of a Deutsche accent into it. Randomly throwing out the word "whom" (instead of who) where it doesn't belong, does not make one sound like an intellectual.

Not a real member - just an ordinary guy who appreciates being able to hang around and say something once in awhile.

Here are a few other of my favorites.
The poster types "end of discussion". I guess everyone else needs to keep their opinions to themselves. It's kind of like Democrat politicians.
The poster types the vaunted "nuff said". I guess you must stop. See above for "end of discussion".
Finally, the phrase used by those I deem to be the mentally challenged, "just sayin'". It's as though use of this phrase absolves the individual using it from any challenge or scrutiny. After all, they don't really mean it, they're "just sayin'".

How about when black folks get on TV throw out words like "Community" and "Programs". They think it makes them sound educated.

Had a fellow shotgun instructor who was fond of telling the new recruits during the firearms training, "unless the command to fire has been given, keep your booger hook off the bang switch."
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.
