A recent purchase has me scratching my head, the rifle has cycling issues,
When a round is chambered and the bolt closed that part is ok.
However, when the bolt is opened the cartridge simply follows the bolt and there is no extraction motion,
The rifle in question is a BSA in 7x57 and until now has never had problem, but considering it's make it could be a tough job.
Any help or suggestions greatfully accepted..

BSA used various actions for their rifles.

May I assume you have one that is a mauser design with its typical extractor and ejector box. If so, check the extractor collar, part that extractor fits to and make sure its not broken. Then check the ejector box, one you need to pull out to remove the bolt. Examine the part in it that sticks out that catches the brass rim when bolt pulled back that throws out the spent brass. This part may be worn badly or maybe broken.
