Friends,

The owner of the Reticle Tru device had sent me one of the new versions a while back and I had been meaning to get play with it long before now.

In fact I had brought it out and zeroed a couple of rifles, in very short order, but then found out the camera batteries were dead.

I just put together a T3 in a chassis and needed to remount the scope after having the barrel threaded for a brake. Long story short, I used the Reticle-Tru to make sure my scope was not mis-aligned.

This is the easiest tool I have used. Once I got the scope re-mounted I used the device, shot at 100, then shot at just shy of 300 on paper, to confirm everything was G2G. It was.

Then I ran a few rounds onto a small rock at 545 and it was on the money.

It is nice to use something that makes the task simple and substantially less time and ammo consuming.

Well Done Jerry!

That's the newest version.

Yeah, they do work great, making simple a sometimes not so simple job.

Kudos to Hi_Vel...

This one is for an AR type, but in experimenting I found that it worked great for the chassis too. smile

Mac,

Is that a 308 T3? Which scope are you running?

Yep .308 T3 lite.

Scope is a Nightforce 2.5-1-x24.

Great little piece of glass and in spite of all the thoughts/comments about small objectives, I have never had an issue in the field in regards to low light.

It is a good little scope for a lightweight rifle.

I don't have that new version but I swear by the original.

The original doesn't work so well on AR's, thus the new version.

I've used both.

I'd probably pick up the original for a bolt gun, would use the new one on an AR. The new one will work on all type; I still like the original.

Interesting - I wonder if the new version works better on an M1A? I did struggle with the original version on that one - seems I couldn't find anything on the rifle to index to.

Measure across the rear of the receiver/stock directly underneath your ocular lens. Mark the halfway point. Use the reference marks on the back of the Reticle-tru to align the center of the device, with the center of your receiver/stock.

Is the aluminum version more desirable? I sure has an issue getting my cross hairs mounted correctly.

I don't know which is more desirable, but the aluminum one is pretty sweet.

Thanks Mackay - locating center of receiver / stock would work. The original version doesn't have the reference marks but does have a 'hang down' that would do the same thing. On this one, the center of receiver and center of stock aren't the same - action is left of center of stock. Ended up eyeballing it for a 'check' after using the tool and think I got it. Great tool - I use it for every installation and do like the looks of that new one in aluminum...

The only thing I've ever used is this: [Linked Image]

Level rifle with rings attached in the vise, or what ever you use with this line level $2.99, then level scope using the flat surface of the elevation turret (cap off of course) in the rings. Leave the level on the elevation turret while you tighten keeping the bubble centered and presto!

I've never even actually looked through the scope before it tightened down. Perfect vertical cross hairs. No turning the scooe in the rings either leaving ring scuffs.

Granted I'm not shooting 1,000 yards, but it work perfectly every time.

I use a cheap plastic level I keep in my cleaning/tool box to level the chrono. Works fine.

That works, until you discover the level isn't really level (tolerences), and that the reticle may not be squarely mounted in the tube.

No matter which mounting system we use we are dependent on the reticle axes being aligned with the adjustment vectors from turning the knobs.

WVGuy,

The aluminum version was developed mostly because Jerry is an artist.

I throw the rifle up on my shoulder, aim at nothing, turn the scope until it looks right and call it done. Never an issue afield.
