Like always with these guys, lots of flattery and a masterful courtship. I can do this, I can do that, I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread, blah blah blah blah blah blah.

A year later- The threat of sheriff deputies and a very unpleasant visit I get one of two guns back. He's damaged the other one and won't give it back "until he does the right thing and takes care of me". Is that code for "I'm f'ing you hard right now"?

Between the excuses and the lies I don't think I'll ever trust a gunsmith again. I swear to Pete I considered burning his house down he made me so mad.

Well Roy, John beat me to it, they are all dying off. When I read my old American Rifleman from the 40's and 50's, they act like everyone has a Bridgeport in the basement. Now your hard put to find a smith with a Bridgeport. If I find one, I'll send him your way, Joe.

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

All I needed was two Savage 99 barrels screwed on two Savage 99 receivers, checked for headspace and indexed. I guess it was too much for him the poor dear.

Thanks to you guys on here, I can now manage all the internals myself.

There is a fellow near me that is a "Good" gunsmith. Younger than me but old school beliefs and practices. He pulled a miracle for me concerning a .22-250 that my Dad had built the year I was born. If anyone needs his contact info just PM me. If he can't do it, he'll tell you.

10+ years ago I had a great gunsmith. Guy had a shop next to his home. He also breed and sold black labs.
It was fun to drive to his place, talk guns & throw tennis balls for the dogs. But one sad day he passed away.

Most "gunsmiths" that I have seen couldn't run a mill or a lathe even if they have one. Their machine shop skills are nonexistent.

I need a barrel swap from 300 to 250, a new barrel made in 6.5-284 and installed on a 99C receiver, and a reblue.

Williams has been around a long time. Might be worth a call.
