I'm back for some more help with one of my novels. This time it involves motorcycles. As you may remember from back over the winter, I wrote a eulogy for Ken Howell that mentioned my friends, the Lesbian chicks that live up the road. A Shamanic Eulogy I sent this to my editor as a sketch for inclusion in a novel I'm preparing. He dug it, so I'm going to write the girls in. My problem is that I have absolutely zero knowledge of motorcycles, and I need to describe them in detail. I'd walk up the road and ask the girls, but they've been missing along with their motorcycles for most of the summer. My guess is they got tired of the heat and humidity and rode north. My question is this: If you saw two women with flowing blonde hair in identical pearly fringed riding attire out on the highway riding identical pearly white motorcycles, what would they be? Look deep into your mind's eye and let me know. Bonus: I'm setting this novel in the spring of 1982. If we can keep it to make and model that was available on or before June 1, 1982, I'd appreciate it. Many thanks in advance.

Honda Ascot or Nighthawk seems fitting.

I always thought the Honda CM 250 or 400 was a chick bike, with their low seat height and automatic clutches, that model was available in your time frame.

its too new but the link I provided has an evolution of women riding motorcycles and tells their story including what bikes they ride. Its Harley centric
not that I know anything about Lesbians on motorcycles but I'd probably think they'd lean toward the classic Harley just to complete the image they are trying to project.

First time I saw a woman riding a motorcycle was in Salt Lake City in the mid 70's and she was on a Honda CB750 with an extended front end, highway pegs and ape hangers (high handle bars). Kind of a dumb looking chopper but with her long brown hair blowing in the wind, her arms up high causing her back to arch and her slender, jeans clad legs spread and extended on either side of that motorcycle - well, it was lust at first sight....

Let's focus on details for a bit. These would be bikes that would be customized for extreme long distance hauls. I just don't know the details. Jim, you mentioned a chopper with ape hangers.
What would y'all think these chicks would have done to their bikes to make them ready for extremely long rides? Also, their profession demands that they be able to take passengers on the back. What sort of seats are we talking?

A pair of BMW R80's, white pearl paint. Panniers and side cars optional. (I would put a sidecar on one of them, so they could take their pet cats along with them.)

Care to guess what model and year that is? Softails were introduced in 84. Engine would need to be a Shovelhead in 82.

That is a Softail Custom.
The Wide Glide is a Dyna-series bike.
The Softails feature the hidden shock system, and a rigidly-mounted engine with counter-balancers.
The Dynas have the traditional 2 shocks that are visible, and a rubber-mounted engine with no balancing system.

Care to guess what model and year that is? Harley Davidson Wide Glide Softtail. Wide glide and softail are 2 different models. Wide glide is part of the dyna family. It has a rubber mounted motor and the rear shocks are on the outside of the rear wheel. The softail is a hard mount motor with the rear shocks under the frame. The softail is designed to give a rigid frame look but give a softer ride.
