The boat paddles are pretty much universally regarded as brutal recoilers... and are in my experience.

M700 LS in 270 Win
M700 SPS 300 RUM

The rum was understandable. The 270 caught me by surprise. Kicks way harder than my wood stocked 700 ADL 30-06. It wasn't terrible. Just sharper than it should have been.

Own a couple of military Springfields, a 1903 and a 1903A03, 30-06s Could use either of them in a military rifle competition we hold once a month at range I'm a member....both shoot very well.

However, the recoil of my 03s from benchrest is not nice....so normally shoot a mild recoil M38 Swede 6.5x55 in the competition.

Most of our military rifle shooters use a 1903A03 rifle in the competition. LOL, every one of them one of them has complained about the recoil. Think they blame it on the stock design. One of them hunts big game in Africa once a year and uses some very heavy recoiling rifles for it. He's commented his 03's recoil is like shooting one of his African big game rifles.

The worst I've shot was a Rem M7 in 300wsm. I don't consider myself a recoil sissy yet the recoil on this gun was so quick and sharp I did not like it at all. After the scope cut me the third time I unloaded it at a gun show. I guess I'm not too bright since it took 3 shots to the bridge of my nose to make me see the light. Bought a Kimber in the same caliber (couldn't throw away good brass and dies right?) and this rifle is no worse than an 06.

George

PS...Recently bought a Rem M600 in 350 mag but this has a Wlliams receiver sight on it. Maybe I am getting smarter.

Should kick more--especially considering the results out where the bullet lands:

Every .250 Savage I've ever owned.

My custom-stocked 9.3x62 CZ.

My CZ 550 Magnum in .416 Rigby, which I remodeled to pretty much match Harry Selby's famous .416--which I've also shot, and kicks a lot less than most people expect.

Totally agree with you on this one. My Marlin 44 mag is a sharp kicking little gun. I'm guessing it has something to do with how quick the pistol powder burns.

Worst "rifle" I've ever shot was an H&R Ultra Light 12ga. when I worked for H&R. I shot multiple groups at 100 yards on the indoor range that consisted of 5 shots into one ragged hole using Remington Buckhammers. It took every ounce of concentration to take what was coming and not flinch. Only thing worse was the 3.5 inch 12ga. turkey gun with 2 oz. turkey loads.

My Abolt .338 Win. is a pet compared to those.

Yeah, my 7 3/4 pound 338WM pre 64 model 70 in a Brown Pounder isn't bad at all. Surprising to me, but I've thought for as light as it is, it "should kick more than this".

Just shoot a 338 WM in a Ruger 77 tanger (red pad), it won't disappoint you. It kicks harder than it should !!!!!!

I'd second Coyote Hunter's 45-70 Guide Gun. Mine was fine with 405 grain slugs until I decided to take it from 22 LR velocities (like 1,230 fps) up to about 1,750 fps. Still looking for some one to shoot up the remaining 85 rounds I have loaded up. I can feel that thing torque every time it goes off.

I'll give my .358 M7 in the factory LSS stock props for this.... Running 200's at 2650 are a boom and a shove, nothing sharp about the sound OR the recoil.

I did just reprofile the barrel to a standard Rem profile, instead of the numbered Pac-Nor profile it had. The intent is to play around with a new stock. It'll be interesting to see the difference.

The wood stocked Ruger 77s are the worst kickers to my way of shooting of any rifle I have fired. Had a tang 270 in the late seventys that would kick the piss out of me regardless of what I did to prevent it.

I was pleasantly surprised when shooting a .300 Weatherby mag. in a Mark V rifle, really expected it to kick more. We were shooting it offhand, didn't try it from a bench.

On the other hand .308 Win always surprise how hard they lick. it's a little bully for it's size.

My heart fluttered there for a minute.😁 Then I realized your meaning.😢 This 77 has a safety similar to the Win 70, not a tang safety.

Anyone with a cast iron shoulder or anyone who believes 77's stock design is a good one could get this rifle at a reasonable price. Let's say $500 plus shipping as a start. 😃 (I believe that's less than Gunbroker prices.)

Trades readily considered. Hint, I like 700's or 70's or Tikka's or 03's or 03A3's or S&W's or Weatherby's or...

I prefer classic.

I have a Belgian BAR in .308 with the plastic Browning butt pad that to me is like shooting a .243. Now the most brutal was a Savage lh 110 in .338 Win. Mag. It came complete with a broken stock that I replaced with a Lee Six fiberglass. Still brutal and I unloaded it.

As a kid I shot 2 model 70 target rifles in .375 H&H and .458 mag and they were pussycats. Of course the weight helped. The owner was a long time Winchester employee, a gunsmith who remarked that the worse stock breaker he came across was the .338 mag in the mod. 70.
