I'm looking for a new (old stock) model 70 in 30-06, ideally something from the 80s, push feed if I can find one. My preference is new, unfired from a collection hopefully. I haven't been able to find one yet, any advice?

I assume you're searching sites on the Internet? Other than that, I have no idea--and suspect you might have a really hard time finding a brand-new one. Those 70's were good rifles, but not exactly collector material.

Patience is a virtue. They are out there in closets and safes waiting for the day old farts or their widows decide to sell them.

Yep, A couple years ago, I found a NIB 270 XTR FWT that was made in 1980.

I love my push fed M70 270 Win Ranger. I wish they would bring back the push feed actions. Good luck in finding what you're looking for.

Wood or Syn (Winlight/McMillan)? FWT? Sporter? Lightweight? Stuck on 30-06?

Those really aren't collectors per se, so I wouldn't insist on prestine, unfired condition. But, would find one in decent shape and go from there.

Those are good, solid guns, not considered very "cool" but most are pretty accurate, sleepers IMO...

Decent rifles, especially after they corrected the abominable issues with the first runs. A friend has a .22/250 that's nicely put together and has a decent walnut stock. Another friend has a Featherweight .257 that's very nice.

And, IIRC, the SA box is 3" vs. 2.8", better for interemediate rounds, like 7x57, Roberts, Swede, etc.

And they have the NH trigger, perferred by many hunters, the three position safety that 700 custom builders spend big bucks for.

All in all, a good solid action with lots of otherwise custom features, all thrown in for a very reasonable price.

PF in a M-70 (gotta be CRF) isn't considered cool. PF seems OK in most other actions, just not in the M-70...

Go figure...

I've recently purchased a 6.5 x 55 from this guy. Highly recommended seller. Stuff is NOS NIB

You can thank me later!

GB has PF Model 70s going around $350 all the time.

I've been tempted to grab a 270 & redeem it w/ a fast twist #1 contour 280 tube myself. Wouldn't be hard at all to find a 30-06 take-off tube if you had to slum the 270...

I see no reason to pay $1,300 for a new in the box PF M-70, not just for a shooter.

They are definitely sleepers. My sleeper is finally going to sit in a McWoody.

If you want a never fired, new rifle made in New Haven, they are few and far between anymore. If you don't care, then don't sweat it.

For $1,300 I'd be looking for a clean Pre-64 shooter.

You can now have a McWoody Edge.

This FN Mauser is in a Classic Mark X WcWoody Edge, 28 oz.
